BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team fell to Montana State today (4-3) in a tight match. The Eagles are 7-11 overall and 4-4 in conference.
"Very close match today and of course it's tough to come out on the losing end of it," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "But there were some really good things we do out there on court that we can use to build on for the next match. Our doubles was strong and we had some nice grit and support in the singles matches."
"Montana State did a nice job today and they earned the hard-fought victory. These are the kind of days where we have to trust the process and stay motivated to bring our best in the next match."
Eastern opened up the match strong with two doubles wins to earn the doubles point. Janaya Smith and Rylee Braeden teamed up on the first court to win 6-3. Stephanie Broussard and Rachel Swindell won at No. 3 6-4 to allow Zoey Nelson and Faye Worrall's match to go unfinished at 5-4.
Smith competed on the first court in singles but fell to her opponent (5-7, 1-6) followed by Nelson who lost 4-6, 4-6 and Braeden (1-6, 6-2, 3-6). Broussard picked up a win on the fourth court in two sets (7-5, 6-1) as well as Worrall who won in three sets (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) to give the Eagles three points in the overall match. Swindell lost (2-6, 0-6) to end the match.
