The Eastern Washington University track and field teams are traveling to the west side of the state to compete in the University of Washington Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26).
On Friday, the men's heptathlon begins at 1 p.m. Pacific Time with the women's pentathlon following at 1:30 p.m. A handful of running events are set to begin at 4 p.m., while some field events follow at 5 p.m.
Competition continues on Saturday at 10 a.m. with field and running events. The heptathlon will also continue at 10 a.m.
"The University of Washington Invitational is going to be a challenging meet," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "There are going to be some national class athletes competing so it could be an eye-opening experience for some of your younger athletes. The athletes that have been to this meet before know what to expect so I am looking for some competitive performances from them."
"We are looking forward to competing in Seattle," said head coach
Stan Kerr. "The meet is loaded with extraordinary talent. Our crew's talents will be on display and we expect performances that will be the result of the hard training we've been doing."

More Comments from Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg
"I am hoping this is a break through meet in the pole vault for both Liz Prouty and Samantha Raines. Dempsey is an exciting arena to vault in. Dominique Butler will be competing in her third heptathlon. It will be fun to see if she can make it three for three on new school records in that event."
"This is our biggest meet of the year so far, with the number of athletes and quality of the competitors. It is time for EWU to step it up."
More Comments from Head Coach Stan Kerr
"The UW Invite typically highlights the distance events and this year is no exception."
"Keshun McGee, Jeremy VanAssche, Joe Gauthier, Dawson Lack, Isaac Barville, Killion McGinniss, Bailey Aiello, Parker Bowden, and Garrett Peoples will be leading the way for the men's team."
