FARMINGTON, Utah – Eastern Washington University soccer senior
Brooke Dunbar has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week and junior goalkeeper
Kelsee Winston has been awarded Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (Oct. 15). This is Dunbar's first award of her career and Winston's third.
Eastern traveled to face Idaho State last Friday and Weber State last Sunday and came home with two shutout victories, defeating the Bengals 3-0 and the Wildcats 1-0.
The Eagles have an unbeaten conference record of 3-0-1 and a three game winning streak, thanks to the performance from Winston, after she recorded two shutouts last weekend. Winston made eight saves throughout the weekend after facing sixteen total shots as she puts herself at second all-time for total shutouts in program history with 11. She is now just one shutout away from becoming tied for the all-time career record for shutouts in EWU's history.
Winston's Co-Defensive Player of the Week award is shared with Claire Howard, a goalkeeper from Montana, who earned shutouts at Northern Arizona and Southern Utah last week.
Last week on Friday, Oct. 11 in Pocatello, Idaho, Dunbar, who came off the bench for the Eagles, found the back of the net right after halftime to secure a 2-0 lead against Idaho State. The goal came in the 47
th minute following a shot by Dunbar that was saved but landed back at her feet as she slotted the ball into the net. Her second goal came in the 60
th minute from an assist by redshirt sophomore
Kendall Pope to end the match 3-0 against the Bengals.
Dunbar now has seven points on the season as she has scored three goals and recorded one assist thus far.
The Eagles return home this Friday, Oct. 18 to host Southern Utah at 3 p.m. Pacific time, and this Sunday, Oct. 20 to host Northern Arizona at 12 p.m. PT at the EWU Soccer Field.
