The Eastern Washington University indoor track and field team competes at the Big Sky Indoor Championships presented by My Place Hotels this Thursday (Feb. 21) in Bozeman, Mont. The roster is comprised of 26 student-athletes from both the men and women's sides.

Hosted by Montana State University, the championship is a three-day event that ends on Saturday (Feb. 23). Thursday's competition starts at 9 a.m. Pacific Time with four events in the heptathlon. The pentathlon is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and will finish later in the day.

On Friday, the heptathlon will wrap up beginning at 9 a.m. The field events start at 2 p.m. with running events starting at 2 p.m. and the last event at 6:35 p.m. On Saturday, field events start at 9:30 a.m. and running events begin at 11 a.m.

"The Indoor Big Sky Championships are one of my favorite meets of the year," said head coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "They are non-stop excitement and Montana State is one of my favorite venues for the meet because it is the smallest in the Big Sky. Everyone is jam packed into their field house and it gets loud."

"Championship week is the best," said head coach Stan Kerr. "The presence of 12 men's track & field teams and 12 women's track & field teams in Bozeman this week is very special. Phenomenal competition and unexpected results make this a grand event."

At last year's indoor conference championship, Eastern Washington women placed fourth out of the 12 schools and on the men's side they placed seventh.

On the Women's Side

Returning to defend her pole vault title is senior Liz Prouty who won last year's event with a vault of 13-3. She is currently leading the league with her vault if 13-3 1/2 from earlier in the season. Samantha Rains is currently tied for second in the league in the pole vault with a vault of 12-9 1/2.

Dominque Butler is currently ranked fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 39-0 1/4. She is also ranked sixth in the pentathlon with 3554 points. In 2016 she placed second in the triple jump at the Big Sky Indoor Championships.

In the throws, senior Paris Flenoy is currently ranked third in the shot put with a throw of 47-7 and fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 57-6 1/2. Senior Madison Doepker is currently ranked fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 58-6 3/4.

On the Men's Side

Senior Parker Bowden is looking to improve from last year when he placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.00. He is currently ranked tied fourth in the league.

Senior Jeremy VanAssche is currently tied for second in the 60 meters with a time of 6.78. With only .02 seconds separating first and second it truly is anyone's race. He is looking to reclaim the title he won in 2016.

In the distance medley relay the men's team is ranked in first with a time of 10:01.09, which broke the school record earlier this year.

In the high jump, junior Killion McGinnis is tied for third in the high jump with a jump of 6-9 1/2. Junior Bailey Aiello is ranked third in the pole vault with a jump of 15-5.

Junior Keshun McGee is ranked first in the triple jump with a jump of 51-3 3/4 and second in the long jump with a jump of 24-7 1/4. He is looking to reclaim the title in the long jump he won in 2017.

More Comments from Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg

"Even though we have a couple of events where we have some good depth, we need points from all our athletes competing in this meet. Everyone one needs to step it up."

"When we get to the Big Sky Championships the individuality of track takes a back seat. This is one of our most important team meets of the year.  The athletes need to step to the line or in the ring with that in mind-- that their performances are for the team."

"It is going to be a good meet and I am looking forward to some great performances by our athletes."

More Comments from Head Coach Stan Kerr

"Big Sky veterans Isaac Barville, Keshun McGee, Jeremy VanAssche, Dawson Lack, Joe Gauthier and Parker Bowden will be leading for us.

"We'll also have newcomers to this meet contributing to our goal of finishing the indoor season with a top four finish."

"The coaching staff has done stellar work in preparing our team for this championship."
