The Eastern Washington University track and field teams travel to Montana State for the first time this year to compete in the Montana State Invitational this Friday (Feb. 8), before returning to Bozeman two weeks later for the Big Sky Conference Championships.
Eastern will be competing against Montana, Montana State, Idaho State, and Weber State from the Big Sky. Field events are set to begin at 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time in the Brick Breeden field house with the running events following at 4 p.m.
"The Montana State Invitational will give our athletes a chance to compete at the Big Sky Championship venue," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "Most of our athletes have never competed there before so it will be a good opportunity for them to feel out the track, runways and rings."
"Talented athletes, a championship venue, and the last regular season opportunity to compete will make this an outstanding meet," said head coach
Stan Kerr. "This meet has the possibility of generating performances that will put a handful of elite Big Sky athletes in the position to make it the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. "
After this competition, the Eagles have week off in preparation for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships. The Eagles return to Bozeman for the 2019 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 21-23 at the Brick Breeden field house.

More Comments from Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg
"We will
also get a chance to compete against four other Big Sky Schools. It will be the first time this year that we will have competed against some of those programs and for others, it will be the first time we see their whole squad."
"Our pole vaulters have done really well at Montana State in the past so I am expecting them to do well there again. The last time we competed at MSU the throwers threw on the center court. That is not something they are used to doing, so if the facility is set up like that again it will be a fun experience for them. Hopefully they will be able to feed off the excitement that being in front of everyone can create, and they can get some big throws."
"I was really pleased with the performances by our sprinters last week. They are starting to get some good times at the right time of the year. I am looking forward to seeing what they can do this weekend."
"This is the last shot for our athletes to show us what they can do to get on the Big Sky squads. That alone should make it an exciting meet."
More Comments from Head Coach Stan Kerr
"The competition venue in Bozeman will be a first-time experience for many of our squad members. A key reason for us in going to this meet is to gain experience and familiarity with the track, runways and throwing rings. The dividends from those experiences will come at the end of February when we return to Bozeman for the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships."
