Track & Field

Both Men’s and Women’s Teams Go 2-2 at the Montana State Invitational Dual

The women take home three titles while the men take home two

RESULTS

The Eastern Washington University track and field teams took home five individual titles at the Montana State Invitational Duals (Feb.8). Both the men and the women went 2-2 against Weber State, Montana, Montana State and Idaho State.

"One of the many outstanding traits of this team is their high standard of practice and performance, both physically and mentally," said head coach Stan Kerr.

"Got to love altitude if you are a field event athlete or a short sprinter," said head coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "We had so many great performances, I couldn't be prouder of our crew."

Women's Top Performers

On the track, freshman Aulane Mpouli placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.57, senior Sophie Bowles was right behind her in sixth place with a time of 25.59.

In the field, Senior Liz Prouty won the pole vault with a vault of 13-1 1/2 while junior Samantha Raines placed third with a personal best vault of 12-9 1/2.

In the long jump, junior Meagan McCurdy won with a jump of 18-5 3/4. Senior Domonique Butler won the triple jump with a jump of 39-0 1/4.

In the weight throw, senior Madison Doepker threw a personal best of 58-6 3/4 to place second. Sophomore Vernice Keyes was right behind her in third with a personal best throw of 57-5 1/2.

Senior Paris Flenoy placed second in the shot put with a throw of 46-5 1/2.

Men's Top Performers

On the track, senior Jeremy VanAssche finished first in the 60 meters with a time of 6.76 which is .01 seconds off of the school record.

Senior Parker Bowden finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11. Freshman Carter Ledwith placed fifth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:04.64

In the field, Junior Keshun McGee placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 49-10 1/2 and second in the long jump with a jump of 24-3 1/2.

Freshman Garrett Peoples placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 49-11 and sophomore Colton Kautz finished fourth in the weight throw.

More comments from head coach Stan Kerr . . .

"Keshun McGee's jump performances throughout the indoor season are nearly unmatched in the history of our program. The same can be said for Jeremy who was only .01 of the school record in the 60 meters."

"Those two guys have cast giant shadows as new throwers like Garrett Peoples, distance gems Nicholas Mullineux-Perra and Isaac Barville and other stellar sprint/hurdle types like Parker Bowden, Joe Gauthier and Dawson Lack often get overlooked."

"The coaches are proud of this group and what we feel we can and have accomplished. Great thing is - we're only going to get better."

More comments from head coach Marcia Mecklenburg . . .

"Highlights of the meet were definitely our event winners, Maegan McCurdy in the long jump, Dominique Butler in the triple jump and Liz Prouty in the Pole vault."

"The depth events for us did their part. In the pole vault we placed first, third and tied for seventh. In the weight we were second, third, fifth and sixth. Those are big point events for us so it was good to see that our athletes performed well at the Big Sky Championship venue. In addition to Liz's win, our third-place finisher in the vault was Samantha Raines with a personal record vault of 12' 9.5".

"Although Madi Doepker was top dog for EWU in the weight throw placing second overall, Vernice Keys made her presence known with a 57 plus foot throw and placed third overall."

"In the sprints Aulane Mpouli is starting to put things together with personal records runs in both the 60 and the 200."

"This was a great meet to finish the regular season with. Next up is the Big Sky Championships"
