The Eastern Washington University track and field team continues its outdoor season at Whitworth University for the second week in a row for the 14th Annual Sam Adams Classic, marking EWU's first multi-event competition of the season.
The two-day meet starts on Thursday (March 21) with the decathlon at 11 a.m. and the heptathlon following at 11:30 a.m.
"The Sam Adams Meet is a terrific opportunity for our combined events athletes to experience the decathlon and heptathlon at an early outdoor season meet," said head coach
Stan Kerr. "Whitworth does a great job of hosting this meet and we're excited to see exactly where our combined events crew are physically and mentally."Â Â
                                              Â
"Although we have a few individual athletes competing at the Sam Adams Track Meet, this meet was scheduled mainly for our heptathletes and decathletes," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "It is the first multi-event competition of the outdoor season so it will be good to see what they can do. With
Dominique Butler coming off the indoor season with a new school record in the pentathlon, we will see if she can carry that momentum into the heptathlon. The weather is going to be great so I am expecting some good early season marks."
Other events take place during the day with two throwing events beginning at 2 p.m. The first day will wrap up with the women's 5,000-meter race at 5 p.m. followed by the men's at 5:30 p.m.
On Friday (March 22), the decathlon continues at 10 a.m. followed by the heptathlon at noon. Field events begin at 2 p.m. with the track events starting at 3 p.m.
