Results

The Eastern Washington University track and field collected three total first place finishes at the 14th Annual Sam Adams Classic at Whitworth University today (March 21-22).

"The multis were blessed with two days of great weather," said head coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "Although it is still pretty early in the season three heptathletes set personal records."

In the field, senior Madison Doepker threw 183-5 in the hammer throw to win and give her a new personal best. In the javelin, junior Margret Nelson placed second with a new season-best throw of 142-3.

Freshman Morgan Munson threw a 136-9 in the javelin throw which placed her fourth overall. Freshman Hailey Leeking set a personal best in the discus throw with a throw of 132-2 placing her fourth.

In the heptathlon, senior Domonique Butler led the way placing fifth with a score of 4,413. Junior Margret Nelson was right behind her in sixth with a personal record of 4,260 points. Freshman Rebecca Thareek also had a personal record of 4,128 points which placed her in seventh overall.

Men's Top Performers

On the track, Joe Gauthier placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.81.

More Comments from women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg . . .
"Dominique Butler led the crew. After running in to over half the hurdles in her first event, things turned around for Dom and by the seventh event she ran a four second personal recored in the 800 meter. Maggie Nelson and Rebecca Thareek, the other two athletes that finished the heptathlon competition with personal records, both ran amazing 800 times as well."

"Madi Deopker looked solid in the hammer winning the event. She was consistent at 55 meters so I think there is a big throw on the horizon."

"I liked the depth in the javelin. I felt Morgan Munson had the throw of the meet for EWU. As a freshman, she threw 25 feet farther then she did last week and placed 4th."

"Freshman Hailey Leeking had a great day in the discus. She was our top performer in that event, set a personal record, and placed 4th."

"Overall it was a good meet. We didn't go into it with a full squad but the athletes that competed did great."

What's Next
Eastern will be heading to Missoula, Mont., for the Al Manuel Invitational on March 29-30.
