Women's Tennis Hosts Idaho and Sacramento State this Week

Eagles return to play after 5-2 win over Montana Sunday

CHENEY,Wash.-- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team returns to Big Sky conference play this Wednesday (April 10) and Sunday (April 14) when they host Idaho and Sacramento State in Cheney, Wash.

The Eagles return to play after their 5-2 victory over Montana last Sunday (April 7) at home. After their victory over the Grizzlies, EWU now has an overall record of 9-8 and 5-1 in Big Sky play. With this record the Eagles are ranked second overall out of the 11 Big Sky schools, following Idaho who is in first.

"We look forward to facing league-leading Idaho this week," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "They have a lot of talent in their lineup but I really like the way we match up against them. We've had really good effort and energy in our recent matches and that's something we will be looking to continue in Wednesday's match. In the end, we have to continue trusting in our system and believing in what we can do out on court."

EWU will first host neighboring Idaho at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse on Wednesday. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. Pacific time. The Vandals have an overall record of 10-5 and they are currently undefeated in Big Sky play (6-0), ranking them first in the Big Sky standings. Idaho is led by head coach Babar Akbar, who is in his third season as head coach. If the Eagles beat Idaho this week, Eastern will then tie the Vandals for first place in the Big Sky standings.

Before the week is over, the Eagles will play Sacramento State on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT in Cheney, Wash. The Hornets have an overall record of 7-10 and 5-2 in Big Sky play. The Hornets are currently ranked fifth overall in the Big Sky conference standings.

EWU will then head out for their two final regular season matches (April 19 and 21) when they travel to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
