CHENEY, Wash. – Following last weekend's deficit, the Eastern Washington University women's tennis team is ready to bounce back to face Washington State this Saturday (Feb. 8) at 6 p.m. Pacific time in Pullman, Wash. The Eagles sit at a 2-2 overall record with their two victories being against Seattle and Whitworth.
EWU returns to play after a 4-0 defeat against Gonzaga last Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash.
"We face another really good PAC-12 program this weekend in WSU. It's good to be challenged because that's how we can get the most growth out of our game and how we can be the most prepared for our upcoming conference matches," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "I expect my players to be sharp and to be motivated to work hard for every point. Every point has to be earned because we know nothing will be handed to us this weekend."
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: WASHINGTON STATE
The Eagles have yet to find victory over the Cougars as they have a 0-23 overall series record.
Prior to the 2020 spring schedule, Washington State competed in the Beach Tennis Tournament, ITA Northwest Regionals, Redbirds Duals, Hawaii Invitational and hosted the Cougar Classic. WSU is currently 4-1 overall with their single loss coming from Stanford.
The Cougars will face Gonzaga at 12 p.m. PT on Saturday (Feb. 8) before facing the Eagles at 6 p.m.
The squad is led by head coach Lisa Hart who enters her 17th season at the helm. She led her team to the NCAA Championships last season with a 19-11 overall record. Additionally, the Cougars return junior Michaela Bayerlova who was named to the 2019 All-Pac-12 First-Team and selected to the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship for the second-straight season.
The Eagles will host Idaho State for their first Big Sky Conference match next Saturday (Feb. 15) at 10 a.m. PT at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
