Eastern Washington University's men's and women's track and field teams will officially begin their indoor season this weekend at their first competition in Cheney, Wash., for the Candy Cane Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 3-4) at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
Starting off the meet on Friday at noon is the men's heptathlon. The men competing this year will have a field size of 14 and will have many top competitors. The top men's mark entering competition is Eastern Washington's
Quintin Porterfield with 4,725 points followed by Western Washington's Cooper Cummings and Ryan Kenney with 4,412 points and 4,400 points, respectively.

Chris Homen,
Elijah Conley, and
Quintin Porterfield.
Both the men's and women's teams will be competing on Saturday with the pentathlon and the conclusion of the heptathlon. The meet begins with the women's 60-meter hurdles at 9:00 a.m. and men's 60-meter hurdles immediately after at approximately 9:20 a.m. The top mark in the women's pentathlon is Eastern Washington's
Maggie Nelson with 3,335 points followed closely by Western Washington's Aliyah Dawkins with 3,310 points.

Maggie Nelson.
Other teams competing include Central Washington, Western Washington, Spokane Falls Community College, and some unattached competitors.
Spectators are welcome, but must wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking. Admission is complimentary.
Following this week's competition, Eastern will continue its season at the Spokane Invitational on Dec. 11 at The Podium in Spokane, Wash.
