Eastern Washington Track and Field Teams Start Off the Season with Wins

Elijiah Conley and Maggie Nelson win the heptathlon and the pentathlon at the Candy Cane Invitational

The Eastern Washington University track and field team have finished their first meet of the season at the Candy Cane Invitational in Cheney, Wash. at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse today (Dec. 4) concluding the men's heptathlon and the women's pentathlon. 
 
Both the men's and women's teams took home first place overall with Elijah Conley leading the men and Maggie Nelson leading the women with first-place finishes. Nelson earned a personal best in the pentathlon with 3,425 points which ranks fourth all-time in program history at Eastern Washington.
 
Conley, a junior, placed first overall with 4,342 points. In the 60-meter dash Conley had a time of 7.34. In the long jump, he jumped 20-00.25 and in the high jump he jumped 5-10.5. In shot put he threw 39-08.5. 
 
Leading the women in first place overall was Nelson, a senior, with 3,425 points. In the 60-meter hurdles Nelson had a time of 9.78. In the high jump she jumped 5-02.5. In the long jump she jumped 17-05.25 and in shot put she threw 39-05.75. She finished with the 800 she where she clocked a time of 2:34.40.
 
Eastern Washington University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will now compete in the Spokane Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Spokane, Wash. at The Podium.
