Annual Matchup with Boise State Set for Friday Night at Reese Court

Eastern Washington welcomes the Broncos to town for the 46th all-time meeting

For the 12th-straight season and the 46th time overall, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will clash with Boise State. Tip-off for the annual matchup is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10 at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.
 
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Tomorrow's matchup is the annual Toys 4 Tots game. Fans are asked to bring a new or gently used toy to be dropped off inside the main entrance of Reese Court. All toys that are collected will be donated to the Toys 4 Tots drive.
 
All fans ages 11 years or older must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours for entry at all men's and women's home games at Reese Court this season, per the state mandate. Additionally, all fans ages five years or older must wear a mask inside Reese Court unless actively eating or drinking.

LAST TIME OUT: Eastern Washington made a school record 18 three-pointers and scored the third-most amount of points in single game history with a 102-61 win over Multnomah at home on Tuesday night. Five Eagles scored in double figures, led by Jaydia Martin with 21 points. Alexis Pettis (17 points), Jaleesa Lawrence (15 points) and Milly Knowles (10 points) all set career-highs, while Jordyn Boesel rounded out the scoring with 11.
 
A large 19-2 run in the third quarter helped Eastern Washington put the game away. Overall, Eastern shot 47.2 percent (34-72) from the field, 56.3 percent (18-32) from three-point range and 80 percent (16-20) from the free throw line. They out-rebounded the Lions, 49-to-27, and had 23 assists.
 
Eastern forced 14 turnovers and turned them in to 19 points while only committing 11 of its own. Multnomah shot 39 percent (23-59) overall, 33.3 percent (6-18) from three-point range, and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free throw line.
 
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is 2-4 overall with an 0-1 mark in Big Sky Conference play. With two 100-plus games on their resume, the Eagles rank third in the conference with 70.2 points per game and only allow their opponents to score 61.2.
 
On the rebounding front, the Eagles are 79th in the nation and fourth in the Big Sky with 40.83 per game. Eastern Washington has been hot behind the arc as of late, leading the conference with 9.0 three-pointers per game, draining 36 percent of its attempts. As a team, they've made at least six in every game but one this year, including 17 against Evergreen State and a school-record 18 against Multnomah. Their 9.0 triples per contest is 21st in the nation while the behind the arc percentage ranks 43rd.
 
Most of the triples come from true freshman Jaydia Martin, who's scored in double figures in all six games so far this season including a pair of 20-plus performances. Martin leads the Big Sky and ranks 11th in the nation with 3.33 three-pointers per game. She's made at least one triple in every game this year, including three with four-or-more. Overall, Martin is second in the Big Sky with 17.5 points per contest.
 
Other Eagle leaders include Jacinta Buckley and Milly Knowles who average 8.0 and 5.6 rebounds per game, respectively. Andie Zylak, who has dished four-or-more assists in three games this season with a career-best nine on Tuesday, ranks seventh in the conference with 3.5 assists per game. She also leads the Big Sky in assist/turnover ratio with 2.6, committing only eight turnovers all season while dishing 21 total assists.
 
A LOOK AT THE BRONCOS: Boise State plays in the Mountain West Conference where they are 2-5 overall. Most recently, the Broncos hosted Florida Atlantic where they came away with a 76-64 win on Dec. 5. Two of their losses have come by less three points or less.
 
The Broncos are averaging 56.1 points per game to go with 38.9 rebounds. Boise State shoots 36.8 percent from the field and 28.5 percent from three-point range with an average of 5.3 three-pointers per game.
 
A trio of players average at least nine points per game in Elodie Lalotte, Abby Muse, and Mary Kay Naro. Lalotte has three double-doubles so far this season, adding 6.6 rebounds per game. Naro averages 4.3 assists per game.
 
The Broncos will travel to Washington State to play the Cougars on Sunday.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Washington and Boise State used to be members of the same conference and played two to three times annually for 17-straight years from 1983 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2003. After a seven-year hiatus, the rivalry was renewed in 2010 and the two teams have met every season since then.
 
Eastern Washington trails the all-time series 16-30 and are 2-9 overall since 2010. The Eagles are looking for their first win over the Broncos since Dec. 20, 2013 when the Eagles won 81-66 at Reese Court. EWU picked up consecutive wins in 2012 and 2013, but have since lost seven-straight.
 
The battles have been close, as four out of the last six meetings have been decided by five points or less. Last year, EWU lost 84-64 on, ironically, Dec. 10. The Eagles made eight three-pointers in the loss, and current Eagle Nuria Cunill led the team with six rebounds and scored five points off of the bench.
UP NEXT: It's off to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Dec. 18-19. Eastern Washington takes on the hosts, Washington, on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena. The next day, EWU plays another Mountain West opponent in Nevada with tip-off set for 2 p.m. Both games will be on the Washington Live Stream.
 
Eastern is back home to host local foe Gonzaga in another annual matchup at Reese Court on Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
