CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis squad returns from a short break of competition as they look to open Big Sky Conference play, hosting Idaho on Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m. Pacific time. The Eagles resume play following a 7-0 victory sweep over Lewis-Clark State College on the road as they hold a 4-8 overall record.
"It is hard to believe that it has been over a year since we have played a Big Sky Conference match. There is always a different energy and excitement when we step out on court to play conference opponents," said head coach
Dustin Hinson, who has led his team to a two-match winning streak versus Idaho. "We expect a battle from Idaho this weekend. They have a lot of experience on their roster, mixed with some good new talent. The team has been waiting for this opportunity and they are ready to bring their best on match day."
In their last time on the court, the Eagles dominated over LC State, allowing only 10 total points to be scored against them in all competitions in singles and doubles play.
In singles play, Eastern defeated LC State in two sets in each singles spot except for at the No.4 spot in which
Zoey Nelson won after three sets. Furthermore, two Eagles have a winning record in singles play in
Jennifer Kida (4-3 at No.2) and
Yasmin Mansouri (5-3 at No.6).
The Vandal squad is led by head coach Babar Akbar, who currently leads his team to a 2-5 overall record. Idaho is currently on a one-match winning streak following a 7-0 win over Seattle University in its last match.
Following the match, Eastern will host its second conference contest against Portland State on Sunday, April 11 at 11 a.m. in Cheney, Wash., before closing the regular season at Montana State and Montana the following week.
