Entering her first season at the helm of Eastern Washington University women's basketball program, head coach Joddie Gleason has announced her squad's 2021-22 schedule. The campaign features 29 regular season games, 16 of which will be contested at home at Reese Court.

The 2021-22 squad is split between eight returners and eight fresh faces, and along with Gleason, associate head coach Skip Gleason and assistant coaches Brandon Morrison and Jordan Loera will also make their EWU debuts.

"We are excited to release the full slate of games so that Eagle friends and families can prepare for the upcoming season just as we are. The team is working hard to learn our new system and I have no doubt that we will be ready for our pre-season games in early November," said head coach Joddie Gleason. "It is my philosophy to have a challenging schedule so that we are prepared for the rigors of Big Sky competition.  This schedule does just that, and also gives us a good number of preseason home games so the Eagle faithful can come out and watch us in action."

The non-conference portion of the schedule consists of nine games, including exciting home matchups against Mountain West Conference members San Jose State and Boise State, along with West Coast Conference member Gonzaga. Eastern Washington then plays every Big Sky Conference opponent twice, splitting between home and the road.

The Eagles play one lone exhibition at Reese Court against Northwest Conference member and neighboring program Whitworth on Nov. 5.

Following EWU's exhibition, they host San Jose State on Nov. 11 at Reese Court before hitting the road for two away games.

The first road trip of the year kicks off at Pepperdine (Nov. 14) and Grand Canyon (Nov. 16). The game against the Waves will serve as rematch from the Dec. 1 contest in 2019 in which the Eagles fell just shy of victory in a close 53-52 deficit. The Eagles will also get another crack at the Lopes, as they fell just six points shy of victory in their last matchup back in December of 2020.

On Nov. 21, Eastern Washington returns home to host Evergreen and then Multnomah on Nov. 27 at Reese Court. The first game against the Geoducks will serve as the first time these programs have met, while the Eagles will look to extend their two-game winning streak in the second game against the Lions.

On Dec. 2, the Eagles compete in their first Big Sky Conference game against Southern Utah on the road in Cedar City, Utah. EWU will look to snap its two-game losing streak and keep the all-time series record in their favor, as they are 12-10 all-time against the Thunderbirds.

The Eagles then face four tough opponents to conclude non-conference play, beginning with a home game against Boise State on Dec. 10 followed by an away contest on Dec. 18 at Washington.

After facing the Huskies, the Eagles will stay in Seattle to face Nevada at a neutral site on Dec. 19 before hosting Gonzaga on Dec. 21 to wrap up non-conference play. Besides the unique 2020-21 season, the Bulldogs and the Eagles have played each other every year since 1985. This matchup will prove to be more special than in years past, as Gleason coached Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier in her first season at Butte College in 2000-01.

It's back to Big Sky play to wrap up 2021 when Eastern Washington hosts Portland State on Dec. 30. The Eagles swept the Vikings last season in Portland, but were handed a first-round loss at the Big Sky Championships by PSU.

Two days later, the Eagles ring in the New Year on Jan. 1 with a home conference game against Northern Arizona.

The following week, Eastern hits the road for a matchup at Montana on Jan. 6 and at Idaho on Jan. 8. The Eagles then return back home to compete against Idaho State on Jan. 13 and Weber State on Jan. 15.

With a travel-heavy January schedule, the Eagles hit the road again on Jan. 20 to compete at Sacramento State and then face Northern Colorado two days later on Jan. 22 in Greeley, Colo. The Eagles will look to improve on their performance against the Hornets after splitting the series last season.

On Jan. 27, the Eagles return to Reese Court to play rivals Montana State and then Montana on Jan. 29.

As EWU heads into February, they host Southern Utah on Feb. 5 before a three-match road trip beginning with Weber State (Feb. 10), Idaho State (Feb. 12) and Montana State (Feb. 17).

To conclude the February portion, the Eagles host three-straight games at home starting with Idaho (Feb. 19), Northern Colorado (Feb. 24) and Sac State (Feb. 26).

On March 2 and March 4, the Eagles conclude the regular season at Northern Arizona and at Portland State, respectively.

The Big Sky Conference Tournament is slated for March 7-10 in Boise, Idaho.
