Eastern Heads to Idaho for the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open

The Eagles will compete at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open in Moscow, Idaho, Jan. 22 at the Kibbie Dome

Eastern Washington University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will travel to Moscow, Idaho this Saturday (Jan. 22) for the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open at the Kibbie Dome.

Meet results will be posted here and here approximately 30 minutes after the last event.

The meet will begin with field events starting at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 60-meter hurdle prelims.

Men's head coach Stan Kerr explains, "We're looking forward to competing in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow this Saturday.  One of the key features that both athletes, coaches, and fans will appreciate is the absence of the basketball court that has obstructed the competition venue for years due to the opening of their new basketball venue."

"It will be good to get back to the Kibbie Dome in Moscow after a two-year absence. It is a great throws facility, and the 300-meter track is easier on our distance athletes and long sprinters," explained head women's coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "We will have most of our squad back and competing so it should give us a little more of an idea on our level of competitiveness as a full team."

Eastern will compete against Central Washington, Washington State, Eastern Oregon, Lewis-Clark, Saint Martin's, Linfield, Spokane Community College, Everett Community College, and Idaho State. Kerr states, "The Lauren McCluskey meet will have a strong regional feel to it with the teams competing being based in Washington, Idaho and Oregon."

Last weekend the Eagles competed in the Cougar Classic Open and the Cougar Classic Invitational at The Podium Friday, (Jan. 14) and Saturday, (Jan. 15). At the Cougar Classic Open five Eagles competed and they were Haven Nutting, Mayah Eberhardt, Justin Roosma, Alec Kness, and Hayden McAuliff.

Roosma competed in the men's one mile run and placed first with a time of 4:07.70. The time is the fourth fastest in program history and is a new facility record at The Podium.

On Friday night at the Cougar Classic Invitational the men's team competed in the men's high jump where Alex Bishop placed fourth with a jump of 6-8 3/4. They also competed in the men's weight throw where Colton Kautz placed fifth with a throw of 56-03 3/4. Four other Eagles competed in the men's weight throw and they were Alax Grimes, Tony Chan, J.J. On the women's team Katrina Terry and Morgan Fossen both competed in the women's pole vault and placed second with a mark of 12-3 1/2. Hally Ruff and Rosalie Folger-Vent also competed in the pole vault with Ruff placing fourth with a mark of 12-3 1/2 and Folger-Vent placing sixth with a mark of 11-9 3/4.

In the running events for the women, Nicole Deherrera and Loren Linnenburger competed in the women's 3,000. Deherrera placed eighth with a time of 10:24.69 and Linnenburger placed 11th with a time of 10:26.29. Competing in the women's mile was Jenni Bissell who placed 12th with a time of 5:18.31.

"Our squad is getting much closer to being 100 percent back.  COVID protocols are still very much a factor, but by conference time next month we should be at full-strength," said Kerr.
