Women’s Tennis Announces Three Additions to 2022-23 Squad

The Eagles welcome Leandra Nizetic, Sara Vasic and Taylor Andersen to join the roster in the Fall of 2022

CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington University head women's tennis coach, Dustin Hinson, has announced the addition of three new signees in Leandra Nizetic, Sara Vasic and Taylor Andersen, to join the squad in the Fall of 2022. Nizetic and Vasic enter the program as freshmen while Andersen is a transfer from Grand Canyon University.

"I'm very excited about this recruiting class. Bringing in three new student-athletes of this caliber will definitely build the overall strength and depth of our program," said head coach Dustin Hinston. "All three bring a really strong training and competition background. They will fit in right away with our team culture and have the ability to immediately make those around them better. I'm very happy to welcome these three to the Eagle tennis family and I'm looking forward to getting them to Cheney this fall."

Leandra Nizetic | Coesfeld, Germany, St. -Pius-Gymnasium

Leandra Nizetic was born in Coesfeld, Germany and will be attending EWU as a first-generation college student in her family. She currently lives in Germany where she attends St. -Pius-Gymnasium Coesfeld.

"Leandra Nizetic has experience at the highest national level in Germany and all throughout Europe," stated Hinson. "She has won numerous national events and competes at the German National Club level with the best players in her country. Nizetic has a really good left-handed game that will bring some craftiness to the court. Her strong work ethic and desire to compete will be a great asset here at Eastern."

Nizetic has played with the second and third highest leagues in Germany, competing in five national women's tournament where she won three and became the finalist in two. She nodded a Westphalian Championship with her U18 team and placed second in the North Rhine-Westphalian Championships. Her team was also nominated for the Sports Athletic Award in her region.

Additionally, the German international has been covered by hometown newspapers such as Westfalischen Nachrichten and Allgemeine Zeitung Coesfeld.

Nizetic intends to get her bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, with thoughts of pursuing a masters degree.

Sara Vasic | Belgrade, Serbia, High School of Pharmacy and Physical Therapy

Sara Vasic comes to EWU from Belgrade, Serbia and will also be attending as a first-generation college student. She currently lives in Serbia where she attends High School of Pharmacy and Physical Therapy (Belgrade).

"Sara has played high-level national tournaments in Serbia. She has a big aggressive game, she's extremely athletic, and moves well on court," stated Hinson. "Sara has a strong martial arts background and has performed with the national dance team in Serbia. She's a well-rounded athlete and is also an unbelievable student."

Vasic is no stranger to challenging herself off the court. In 2018, she got certified in French Language DELF A2 and in 2019 she placed third in her school's first aid competition. She also competed in the 2019 Karate Cup and placed first in the 68 kg weight category.

On the court, Vasic has competed in the Belgrade Open and TK Sergio, placing first and second respectively.

Vasic intends on majoring in Exercise Science, with plans of becoming a doctor in physical therapy.

Taylor Andersen | Gig Harbor, Wash., Grand Canyon University

Andersen was born in Gig Harbor, Wash., and labeled a four-star high school recruit out of Laurel Springs School in Ojai, Calif. She transfers to Eastern Washington from Grand Canyon University after spending the 2020-21 season as a Yote.

"Taylor Andersen already has some great college tennis experience during her time at GCU. She was an All-Conference player in the WAC during her first year and played in the NCAA Championships as a freshman," stated Hinson. "We are happy to add that kind of experience to the squad. Andersen has a very dynamic game, she's fit and athletic, and I know she's ready to hit the ground running here at Eastern."

In her first year at GCU, Andersen earned First Team All-WAC Singles and Doubles awards, became the first GCU freshman to earn first team singles and doubles honors since 2014 and became the second GCU freshmen in school history to finish undefeated in WAC play in both singles and doubles. Andersen also was part of the first GCU women's tennis team to play in the NCAA tournament.

Additionally, Andersen went 10-8 in singles at the No. 5 and 6 positions, finished second on the team with a 12-6 record in doubles at the No. 3 position, and ended the season with a 9-1 record in doubles.

Andersen intends on majoring in Exercise Science while at EWU.
