Women’s Tennis Away at Gonzaga and Home versus Whitworth

The Eagles take on the Bulldogs on Saturday and host the Pirates on Sunday

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team gears up for two non-conference matches beginning at Gonzaga on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time in Spokane, Wash. The Eagles then return home to host Whitworth on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. PT at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney.

The Eagles sit 0-5 overall and return after a two-day road trip to Eugene, Ore. The squad fell to Oregon (0-7) and Portland (1-6) last weekend.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Gonzaga

The Eagles currently have a 19-45 all-time series record versus Gonzaga and will look to snap a 16-match losing streak to the Bulldogs on Saturday. EWU's last win over GU dates back to February of 2008 where the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 5-2 in Spokane, Wash.

Gonzaga is led by head coach Natalie Pluskota-Hamberg who enters her first season at the helm. She was recently the assistant for GU for four years after returning to Spokane following a one-year stint at Arkansas in 2018-19.

This season, Pluskota-Hamberg has collected wins over Big Sky opponents Montana State and Idaho, and currently leads her team to an overall even record of 3-3.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Whitworth

The Eagles have an impressive 19-5 all-time series record versus the Pirates and currently hold an eight-game winning streak with their last defeat coming in April of 1992. Last season, the Eagles overwhelmed Whitworth to a 7-0 victory at home. In addition, the Pirates have failed to score a single point against EWU in their last six competitions against one another.

Whitworth is led by head coach Rachel Aldridge who enters her eighth season at the helm. After dropping two matches to Lewis-Clark State and Whitman earlier this month, the Pirates currently sit with a 1-2 overall record and hold a two-match losing streak.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Eagles open Big Sky play on Mar. 5 as they host Montana at 10 a.m. PT. at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. EWU then hosts Montana State on Mar. 6 at 10 a.m. PT.
