Women’s Tennis Sets Course for Two Matches in Arizona

The Eagles face Northern Arizona on Sunday and Grand Canyon on Tuesday

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team sets course for two matches in Arizona, beginning with Big Sky Conference opponent, Northern Arizona, on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. Pacific Time in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Eagles then face non-conference opponent, Grand Canyon, at 10 a.m. PT in Phoenix, Ariz. at the GCU Tennis Facility on Tuesday, March 29.

Eastern Washington currently holds a 3-8 overall and 2-2 conference record. The Eagles are coming off two tough losses last weekend to conference foes Idaho State (6-1) and Weber State (6-1), both played on the road. 
 
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Northern Arizona 
 
The Eagles have an overall series record of 2-22 versus NAU. The last time these two programs clashed dates to the 2019 Big Sky Conference Regular Season Championship, in which EWU fell 6-1 in Flagstaff to finish the regular season 8-2 in conference play.
 
The Bears are led by head coach Ewa Bogusz, who is in her fourth year at the helm after spending a year as an assistant coach. Bogusz currently leads her squad to an overall 3-7 and an even 1-1 league record with a loss against Weber State (4-3). They face Idaho State before welcoming the Eagles to the Tennis Center. 
 
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Grand Canyon 
 
Eastern holds an all-time series record of 1-1 versus GCU. The Eagles hosted the Lopes back in 2015 and were edged 4-3. Before that, EWU hit the road in 2009 and found a 5-2 win against Grand Canyon. 
 
The Lopes are led by head coach Greg Prudhomme, who enters his 14th season at the helm. Prudhomme currently leads his squad to an overall 3-8 record and have yet to compete in any Western Athletic Conference matches. They faced Idaho State last Monday (March 21) and fell 4-3 at home.

The Eagles take on conference neighbor Portland State on April 10 at 11 a.m. PT at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Stadium in Beaverton, Ore., before concluding the season at home with two Big Sky matches.
