The Eastern Washington University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed today (Mar. 26) and yesterday (Mar. 25) at the Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula, Mont., at Dornblaser Field.Â
Â
"Good weather and competition made a good day for the thinclads.  The weather is always iffy at this meet but this year it was warm and wind minimal," explained head men's coach
Stan Kerr.
Â
Joe Gauthier,
Daniel Gaik,
Liam Bracken, and
Logan Allen placed first in the men's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 41.11, which ranks eighth all-time in EWU history.
Â
"The men's 4x100 got us off to a great start with a win and posted the ninth all-time mark. Each relay member doubled back in other sprint events with solid early season performances," stated Kerr.
Â
In the men's 100-meter dash Gauthier placed second with a time of 10.86. Gaik also competed in the men's 100-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 10.92. Gaik also competed in the men's 200-meter dash and placed third with a time of 21.55.Â

Â
In the men's 400-meter hurdles
Noah Cherrington placed third with a time of 58.82.Â
Â
"Distance-wise, competing in their first steeplechase of the season,
Cameron Stuard (his first ever steeplechase) and
Jamie Christner (personal record performance) showed plenty of grit given yesterday was their initial water barrier practice of the season," said Kerr.Â
Â
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase Stuard placed third with a time of 9:40.38. Christener also competed and place fifth with a time of 9:53.13.
Â
"
J.J. Molia had a breakthrough in the discus and was rewarded with his first collegiate appearance in an event final. Â
Zach Klobutcher finished second in the pole vault but jumped on our new big time poles for the first time," explained Kerr.Â
Â
Molia placed eighth in the men's dicus throw with a mark of 142-7.Â
Â
Klobutcher competed in the men's pole vault and placed second with a mark of 15-5. Â
Â
Colton Kautz competed in the men's hammer throw and place fourth with a mark for 177-3.
Â
In the women's 100-meter dash
Katie Petsch placed first with a time of 12.01. She placed second in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 24.99.Â
Â
"Other top marks go to Petsch in the 100-meter and
Madison Tareski in the javelin throw. Both marks were personal records and Tereski's throw was about three feet from a NCAA West Regional standard. I think she was going for
Maggie Nelson's 158' mark from the Buc Scoring / Multi Events Meet yesterday. Petsch also went sub 25 in the 200 for another second place finish," explained head women's coach
Marcia Mecklenburg.Â
Â
Tareski placed second in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 151-4.Â
Â
In the women's 400-meter dash
Haven Nutting placed third with a mark of 57.97.
Faith Kennedy also competed in the women's 400-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 58.66.
Â
"We had a good showing in the 800-meter with
Jenni Bissell and
Madilynn Carr running aggressive 800-meter races and both setting personal records. Then to top it off,
Amanda Nygard came through winning the second heat of the 800-meter," stated Mecklenburg.
Â
Carr competed in the women's 800-meter run and placed fourth with a time of 2:17.85. Bissell also competed in the women's 800-meter and placed sixth with a time of 2:18.86. Nygard also competed and placed 10
th with a time of 2:28.66.
Â
"We had some great performances today in weather that was wonderful. Our lone victory came from
Alyssa Hoffman in the 400-meter hurdles. She is getting consistent at running 64 seconds, so I think a big drop in her time is coming," explained Mecklenburg.
Â
In the women's 400-meter hurdles Hoffman,
Felicity Hempstead, and
Lidiya Pankova competed taking first, second, and third place. Hoffman placed first with a time of 1:04.6, Hempstead placed second with a time of 1:05.22 and Pankova placed third with a mark of 1:07.09.Â

Rosalie Folger-Vent competed in the women's pole vault and placed 2-3-4-5. Schultz placed second with a mark of 12-11 1/2. Terry placed second with a mark of 12-7 1/2. Ruff also had the same mark of 12-7 1/2 and placed fourth. Folger-Vent placed fifth with a mark of 12-1 1/2.
Â
"Our vaulters continue to be a huge scoring crew for us with their depth, placing second through fifth. Schultz was the lead vaulter for us this week," said Mecklenburg.Â
Â
Carissa Stovall competed in the women's shot put and placed second with a mark of 44-4. She also competed in the women's discus throw and placed fourth with a mark of 137-7.Â
Â
"
Vernice Keyes is starting to push the envelope in the hammer throw with a second place finish behind the defending Big Sky Champion and a 188-foot throw. Stovall has thrown 44' 2-4" in about five meets between indoors and outdoors so far this year. Her second place throw was at that 44-foot mark again, so I know 45' is right around the corner," explained Mecklenburg.
Â
In the women's hammer throw
Vernice Keyes placed second with a mark of 188.
Â
"Overall, I thought we had some great marks coming off a demanding and draining finals week," said Mecklenburg.Â
Â
"We're very proud of the crew for their efforts today. Balancing finals week and performing at such a quality level showed this team's great character," explained Kerr.Â
Â
The Eagles will next be competing at the Hayward Premiere next weekend April 1-2 in Eugene, Ore., at the Hayward Field.
