Women’s Tennis Faces Portland State on the Road for Final Regular Season Away Match

The Eagles head down to Beaverton this Sunday

CHENEY, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team hits the road for its final regular season away contest facing Big Sky foe Portland State. The match takes place this Sunday (April 10) beginning at 11 a.m. Pacific time at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Stadium in Beaverton, Ore. The Eagles head into the match with an overall record of 3-10 and 2-3 in conference play.

"We are looking forward to getting back out and competing in a tough conference match," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "We have been working hard on court all week. I know we will give it all we have and trust that our determination and desire will shine through on court with some good performances."

LAST TIME OUT: Eastern returns after splitting last weekend with league and non-league play versus Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon respectively. The Eagles fell to NAU 7-0 but battled through the match, as Jennifer Kida and Isabella Foshee at No. 1 and No. 5 singles spots would both win their second set.

Kida and Foshee carried their momentum over to GCU to both find victories. Kida defeated her opponent at the No. 1 position in two sets (6-1, 6-3), while Foshee fought for a 10-7 comeback win in the final set at the No. 4 singles position.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: The Eagles hold an all-time series record of 28-7 against the Vikings, with a six-match winning streak and a 12-3 all-time home record. The last time these two programs clashed, Eastern hosted the Viks for Senior Day and edged out a 4-3 comeback victory inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney. The Eagles bounced back after falling 3-0 and won the next four matches with efforts from Kida, Louise Waite, Renata Gabuzyan and Yasmin Mansouri

The Viking squad is led by head coach Kyle Russell, who enters his third season at the helm and currently leads his team to a 7-10 overall and 2-4 conference record with wins over Montana (6-1) and Idaho (4-3). Portland State is currently on a two-match losing streak following a 4-0 loss to Pacific and a 7-0 loss to Sac State.
