The Eastern Washington University athletic department has named
Lynsey Winkler the Senior Athletic Academic Advisor, as announced today (May 24).
Â
"I want to thank
Courtney Bilodeaux,
Lynn Hickey, and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to help guide and mentor EWU's student-athletes," said Winkler. "I could not be more excited to be back in college athletics and I am eager to get started."
Â
Winkler has an extensive collegiate soccer and coaching background that has transferred into positions in collegiate academics. Winkler is no stranger to Eastern Washington University, as she spent nearly five months as a student success advisor on campus. In her role, Winkler assisted over 280 students with academic development plans to help progress towards graduation.
Â
"We are thrilled that Lynsey accepted the position as Senior Athletics Academic Advisor. We feel she brings experience and energy that will help us continue to improve our current programming and assist in designing and implementing more to come," said
Courtney Bilodeaux, EWU's Associate Athletic Director for Academic Success.
Â
Prior to Eastern, Winkler spent two seasons as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Texas Permian Basin where she had 36 Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll athletes and two All-Conference players, including the 2020 Freshman of the Year. There, she also monitored academic progress of her student-athletes and helped provide support for at-risk student-athletes.
Â
Winkler's collegiate coaching career started at Whitman College where she was an assistant coach for the women's soccer team, primarily overseeing recruiting, travel, and strength details. She was also an adjunct teacher at the college, teaching beginning and intermediate soccer.
Â
She graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., in 2009 with her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a minor in Graphic Design. She was a two-time First Team All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference selection during her tenure.
Â
Winkler has also worked a head girl's soccer coach and assistant to the athletic director at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, La. At Newman, she was voted the Louisiana D-IV Coach of the Year twice in 2016 and 2017, and was the D-IV District 8 Coach of the Year three times.
Â
She graduated from the University of Missouri with her Master's degree in Educational, School and Counseling Psychology in May of 2020.
