CHENEY, Wash. — As
announced by the Big Sky Conference on Monday afternoon, Eastern Washington University student-athlete
Bobby Say was named the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11.
Say, a senior from Maple Valley, Wash., moved into first place in the Big Sky this season with a triple jump of 15.96 meters (52' 4.5") at the Don Kirby Invitational in New Mexico. The jump set a new personal record and moved the Tahoma High School product into second on EWU's all-time indoor performance list.
"Bobby has been committed to the training plan since day one," said EWU Assistant Coach
Jonina Brinson, who specializes in jumps and multi-events. "We challenged him to make a few technical changes and he bought in right away. Since then, the hard work and dedication is paying off tremendously."
Say is also near the top of the Big Sky long jump leaderboard, currently 4th at 7.26 meters set over the weekend, just .03 meters off his career PR.
"Bob and Coach Jo have done an amazing job working together and pushing the envelope," added EWU Director of Track and Field
Erin Tucker. "I love it when a good plan comes together. I am excited about this well-deserved honor and I am even more excited about what those two will cook up next weekend!"
The Eagles wrapped up their indoor regular season over the weekend and will now prepare for the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Championships in Moscow, Idaho on Feb. 23-24.
