CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team resumes Big Sky Conference play hosting No. 63 Northern Arizona this Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The Eagles return to the conference 0-1 and 2-6 overall after a short trip to Spokane last weekend.
The Eagles are coming off a tough loss to Gonzaga last Saturday, falling 4-0 to their neighboring WCC Zag squad. EWU saw some success in doubles play with
Renata Gabuzyan and
Kenzington Mann teaming up at No. 2 to collect one point before dropping the match 6-1. Gabuzyan continued to swing well, winning her first set at No. 3 singles, 6-3, but the match ended unfinished in the second set.
Scouting Northern Arizona
The Eagles have an overall series record of 2-23 versus NAU. The last time these two programs clashed, EWU came close in every matchup but ultimately fell 7-0 in Flagstaff, Ariz. The 'Jacks are coming off a 5-2 conference victory over Portland State last weekend, marking their second league win after defeating Weber State (4-3) back in late February.
Northern Arizona is led by head coach Ewa Bogusz, who is in her fifth year at the helm after spending a year as an assistant coach. Bogusz leads her squad to an overall 6-4 and unbeaten 2-0 league record. They face Idaho, who holds a 1-1 conference record, this Friday, before traveling to Cheney.
