Eagles win commanding match against Bobcats

Eastern Washington picked up its first conference win in a road matchup

With the regular season winding down, Eastern Washington women's tennis delivered with a 5-2 win over Montana State this morning (April 7). Eastern won two of the three doubles matches to earn the point and then secured the win with four singles match victories. The Eagles improve to 3-10 on the season and 1-4 in the Big Sky. MSU falls to 4-12 on the season and 1-5 in conference.

"I'm so thrilled for the team to get a win today. They have been working so hard and I really wanted them to feel the reward of a win," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "They did great to get the doubles point and battled so tough in singles. I was happy for [Leandra] Nizetic to get the fourth team point to clinch the match. She played a long three-setter and stayed tough to get that final set. We are going to enjoy the win today and we will be ready and excited to take on the Griz Sunday!"

In the No. 2 doubles spot, Renata Gabuzyan partnered with Jennifer Kida against Andrea Cuquerella and Izabela Heinzova. Gabuyzyan and Kida secured a 6-3 win for the Eagles in the match. Leandra Nizetic and Kenzington Mann joined up against JJ Chen and Felicia Jayasaputra at the No. 3 spot. Eastern earned the doubles point following Nizetic and Mann's 6-4 win in the match.

Moving to singles, Kida stayed focused in against Heinzova, winning in two sets by a score of 6-4 in the No. 2 position.

Gabuzyan faced a highly competitive match against Jayasaputra at No. 3. The senior emerged victorious in three sets, with a 6-3 win in the final frame.

Nizetic was battling with Mirte Van Baelen in the No. 4 spot and the match would go three sets. After dropping the tie breaker in set two (2-7), Nizetic rallied in the third for a 6-4 win.

Kenzington Mann capped off the Eagles' win with a three-set victory at the No. 6 spot.
