SEATTLE, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's tennis began its 2024 schedule with a road matchup against No. 24 Washington. The Huskies validated their ranking, controlling the match and winning 7-0 over Eastern.
"We played a solid team today, but we have a lot we can learn from the match to help us build for future matches," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "I thought we competed well in singles and had some opportunities in points where we weren't in position. Working on positioning and capitalizing on opportunities to finish points will be a good focus for training moving forward. [Anait] Arutiunian had a great singles match and played very well. I'm really excited with the team we have this season and I look forward to our upcoming matches."
Redshirt-freshman Anait Arutiunian faced Astrid Olsen in her singles match, battling to a tiebreaker in the first set. Olsen held on to win 7-6(2) in the tiebreaker, then winning the match in two sets.
In the doubles round, Jennifer Kida and Sara Vasic took on Melissa Sakar and Dariya Detkovskaya. Kida and Vasic took two games from Sakar and Detkovskaya, but fell 4-2.
