Zags take season opener from Eags

Eastern Washington opened its 2024 spring season on Sunday afternoon

SPOKANE, Wash. — Eastern Washington men's tennis began its spring schedule today, traveling up the road to play Gonzaga at the Stevens Center. Eastern fell in the match, 6-1, getting a win in singles. 

Sophomore Arshjot Bhatti played at the No. 5 singles spot against the Bulldogs Tom Dunlop. Bhatti earned the win after splitting the first two sets, then winning the tie breaker 10-7 to get the points for the Eagles. 

Caden Kammerer and Tyler Dalos took the court at the No. 1 doubles spot against Matthew Hollingsworth and Sasha Trkulja. The sophomore duo defeated Hollingsworth and Trkulja, 6-3. The Eagles could not get wins in the other two doubles matches to secure the point.

Drew Dillon faced Hollingsworth in singles and fought hard, but dropped a two-set match (6-4, 6-3).

Eastern is off until Feb. 2 when they travel to play Montana in Missoula, Mont. On Feb. 3, the Eagles will also play Grand Canyon in Missoula.
