FARMINGTON, Utah. - After holding down the No. 1 singles spot for Eastern Washington men's tennis this season,
Tyler Waddock earns All-Big Sky singles second team honors. The award is Waddock's first postseason honor of his collegiate career.
The Calgary, Alberta native took ownership of the No. 1 singles position, posting a 4-3 conference record and 8-11 overall.
In Eastern's season finale last week, Waddock battled in a highly-competitive match against Idaho State's Victor Sklenka. Waddock won the first set 7-6, overcoming Sklenka 7-3 in the tiebreaker. Sklenka won the second set 6-3 and the match moved to the third. The competition remained heated as the two went to a tiebreaker for the second time in the match. Waddock again remained poised and defeated Sklenka 7-4 in the tiebreaker to clinch the match.
Earlier this season, EWU defeated Portland State 6-1, the program's first win over the Vikings since 2017. Waddock provided a key win in the match, defeating Luca Prino in three sets. The match went to a tiebreaker in the third set, with Waddock delivering a 7-3 win.
The Eagles faced Weber State at the beginning of April, with Waddock cruising to a two-set win over Tristan Sarap (6-4, 6-4).
Against Idaho, Waddock faced Francisco Gay, playing another marathon match against the Vandel. The junior emerged with the win after playing two tiebreakers (6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5)) to knock off Gay.
Waddock transferred to Eastern two offseasons ago after playing one season at Sacramento State (2022-23).
