Eagles win doubles, fall in singles to Bobcats

Eastern Washington started its final road with a loss to Montana St.

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The road schedule is nearly complete for Eastern Washington men's tennis as they started the weekend with a matchup against Montana State. Eastern fell to the Bobcats, 5-2, winning the doubles point, but dropping five-of-six singles matches. EWU is now 1-5 in the conference and 4-16 overall. 

Beginning in doubles, the Eagles gained the early momentum, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to clinch the opening point of the day. At No. 3, Caden Kammerer and Brady Thomas joined up for a 6-4 win over Yassin Elaroussy and Camille Chantron. The point was clinched at No. 2, with Arshjot Bhatti and Drew Dillon battling Eddie Biss and Harrison Janes. The matchup was tied 6-6 and went to the tie breaker. Bhatti and Dillon fought to a 8-6 win in the tiebreaker to secure the match win and doubles point. 

Bhatti continued to show poise in singles, playing at No. 5 against Janes. The first set was another competitive battle between the two, with Bhatti earning the victory, 7-5. In the second set, Bhatti cruised to a 6-3 win and gained another point for Eastern. 

Tyler Dalos, playing at No. 2, won the first set against Andrew Stewart, but dropped the next two (6-2, 6-3) to miss on the point.

Up Next
Eastern Washington travels across the state to Missoula to play Montana on Saturday (April 12), with first serve at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
