CHENEY, Wash. — Hoops season is officially here. The 2024-25 EWU Men's Basketball schedule tips off with an exhibition game against Whitworth on Saturday, October 26, at 4 p.m., offering fans a first glimpse of the revamped roster.
Under the guidance of Coach Dan Monson, who is stepping into his first season with the Eagles, there's a strong focus on continuing the momentum from last year's impressive campaign. The Eagles finished the previous season with a stellar 21-11 record, clinching the Big Sky Championship title with a remarkable 15-3 conference performance.
Returning to the court are six key players from last season's championship squad, including standout guards
Mason Williams and
Nic McClain, who will look to lead the team once again. They'll be joined by
Vice Zanki,
Sebastian Hartmann,
Jackson Seale, and
Emmett Marquardt, all of whom bring valuable experience and skill to the roster.
Coach Monson has also made significant strides in recruiting, bringing in a talented group of transfers to bolster the team's depth. Notable additions include Angelo Winkle and
Elijah Thomas from Des Moines Area Community College,
Tyler Powell from Nevada, and
Maddox Monson and
Shaumba Ngoyi from Long Beach State. The Eagles also welcome
Sam Stockton from LC State,
Pavlo Dziuba from High Point, and
Andrew Cook from Carroll, each expected to make an immediate impact.
Following the exhibition, the Eagles will hit the road to face Colorado on Monday, November 4, at 6 p.m., a challenging match up that will test the team's early chemistry. They'll then return to Cheney for their highly anticipated regular season home opener against Seattle University on Wednesday, November 6, at 6 p.m.
