SPOKANE, Wash. — With just three weeks until they host the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships at the same location, the Eastern Washington Eagles Track & Field team another weekend at The Podium Powered by STCU in Spokane on Saturday, finishing up three days of competition at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis meet hosted by Spokane Sports.

"We had great energy this weekend and had some pretty good performances," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erin Tucker. "Hats off to Coach Allison and the vaulters. What a day for Lucas Couron. He keeps getting better and better and shot all the way up to the top three in school history. Not to be outdone, Savannah (Schultz) is waking up and back over 13 feet for the first time this season. There is more to come."

Couron moved up from 8th to 3rd in EWU history with a vault of 5.11 meters (16' 9.25"), good for 4th at the meet and 3rd in the conference this season. Zach Klobutcher finished 5th (4.96 meters) and holds the 2nd-best mark in the Big Sky.

Schultz earned 2nd this weekend with a 4-meter vault that puts her atop the Big Sky leaderboard.

"Coach Read did it again as well,' Tucker continued. "The distance squad put three separate (distance medley relays) into our top-10 list on the women's side. That record is on watch, because once we stack it watch out!"

The Eags finished 3rd, 4th and 5th in the women's DMR, good for 6th, 7th and 9th at EWU all-time. Kaylin Sheley, Amanda Nygard, Rylee Brandon and Lilly Fetzer finished at 12:11.70, followed by Sara Sanders, Kaiya Sollie, Faith Martinez and Ellie Linnenburger at 12:13.28, then Jenni Bissell, Rhiannon Davies, Madi Carr and Jasmin Muneton at 12:16.59. The 12:11.70  mark is good for 2nd in the Big Sky this year

On the men's side, Owen Higgins, Lucas Robert, Alec Kness and Cam McChesney posted a 10:14.95, good for 8th in program history and 4th in the Big Sky.

"'Madi the Magnificent' remained steady in the 400 meters in her second run of the year. We are still on school record watch there. 'Takiyah the Sensational Frosh' jumped all the way from 10th place all-time to 4th and trust me when I tell you she is on school record watch as well!"

Madelyn Knight barely missed her recent PR in the 400, running 56.44. Freshman Takiyah Blue was right behind Knight, crossing at 56.54, good for 4th all-time by an Eagle.

Kristian Phennicie moved into a tie for 4th in EWU history with a 6.84 in the 60-meter dash, improving his 6.85 mark set earlier this season. It's the 5th-best time in the Big Sky this year.

"Welcome to Eastern, Kimberly 'Tuti' Smith," Tucker added. "This young lady transferred in mid-year and was just cleared for take-off on Tuesday. She didn't disappoint. I see what Coach Jo (Jonina Brinson) and her crew are cooking over there."

Smith cleared 5.68 meters in her first competition as an Eagle, good for 10th in the long jump in school history. Freshman Kailee Kellum is knocking on the door as well with a 5.67-meter mark.

Bradley Fillis recorded 16.52 meters (54' 2.5") in the shot put, good for 2nd at the meet and 5th in the Big Sky.

The Eags will send a small group to the Husky Classic in Seattle next weekend while the remainder of the team will compete at the Third Annual Whitworth Invite back at The Podium.
