Eagles struggle to get going in Boise, drop both matches

1/31/2025 4:58:00 PM

BOISE, Idaho - EWU Men's Tennis continued road play in Boise, and would drop both of their Friday matches. It was their second straight doubleheader of the season, as Eastern Washington would fall to Idaho State 0-4, and Boise State 0-7. The Eagles moved to 0-5 this season.

The Eagles and the Bengals faced off at a neutral site for the first time since 2006. Eastern Washington falls to 10-26 all-time against Idaho State.

In the afternoon match, the Eagles and the Broncos faced off for their 18th all-time meeting, as BSU moved to 17-1 all-time against EWU.

MATCH 1
In the early morning match against the Bengals, Eastern's No. 2 doubles Tyler Dalos/Arshjot Bhatti would find themselves in a grind of a match. The two would fall just short in the tiebreaker 7-5, and lose the doubles dual-match 7-6.

In the singles, junior Arshjot Bhatti would represent the Eagles in the No. 5 singles position. Bhatti would jump out to a 6-3 one set lead over Hayden Ciguenza before it would be unfinished due to the Bengals clinching the match. The No. 6 singles position for the Eagles would see senior Brady Thomas bounce back from a 6-2 first set loss, and take the second set lead 4-3 over Luka Vujacic before his match would also be unfinished.

Tyler Waddock and Tyler Dalos in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position respectively, would each fall in a tight first set 6-4, before Waddock's dual-match would be unfinished, and Dalos falling and losing his second set to Victor Sklenka.

MATCH 2
In doubles against the Broncos, the Eagles would be unable to snag the first point of the match. Boise State would win two of the first two doubles matches, as the No. 1 doubles match of Tyler Waddock/Caden Kammerer (EWU) and Carson Baker/Jett Middleton (BSU) would go unfinished.

For singles, Bhatti and Dalos from the No. 5 and No.2 positions would each fall in tight 6-4 first sets. The Broncos would prove to have too much firepower, as they would pull out the victory in all singles dual-matches and win the match 7-0 for their second victory of the day.

Up Next
Eastern Washington will be back home and take on Montana Sunday, Feb. 2. It will be the first of two meetings this year between the two teams. First serve is set at 10 am in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
