Soccer prepares for the Big Sky Tournament, Men’s and Women’s basketball season begins, Football has a ranked road matchup, Women’s Volleyball returns home

CHENEY, Wash. — November has arrived and Eastern Washington athletics has teams starting and nearing the end of their seasons. Soccer is in Missoula for the Big Sky Tournament this week as the No. 3 seed. Men's and women's basketball begin their regular seasons tonight, with the women at home and the men on the road. Football has a road matchup against the top team in the conference.Women's volleyball is back home for two games. 

Soccer
– at Big Sky Championship Quarterfinal vs Northern Arizona (Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. PST)
Eastern Washington secured the No. 3 seed in the Big Sky Soccer Tournament, which will be held in Missoula, Montana, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 5. The Eagles will face No. 6 Northern Arizona in a quarterfinal matchup at 10 a.m. PST—a familiar opponent they defeated 4-0 in the second-to-last match of the regular season to help clinch their tournament position.

The 2025 campaign was one of growth and resilience for Eastern. The Eagles went 4-3-3 in nonconference play, earning wins over Southern Utah, UIC, St. Thomas, and Hawai'i Pacific. In Big Sky action, Eastern opened with a narrow loss to Weber State before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Idaho State. After a draw with Montana and back-to-back losses, the Eagles found their stride—closing out the regular season with three straight shutout victories over Portland State, Northern Arizona, and Northern Colorado. Eastern finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-6-4.


Individually, Delani Walker led the way offensively, topping the Big Sky in both goals (9) and points (18) while earning two Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Kamryn Willoughby anchored the Eagles' back line, collecting two Defensive Player of the Week awards and ranking third in the conference with 4.94 saves per game.


Football - at No. 2 Montana (Saturday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT)

Eastern is back on the road to play its second-to-last road game of the season. They travel to Missoula to take on the No. 2 team in the country, Montana. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. Pacific Time and 1 p.m. Mountain. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can listen along live with the voices of the Eagles, Larry Weir and Paul Sorensen.

EWU was at home this past weekend, but fell to Sacramento State, 35-13, ending the team's three-game winning streak. The teams combined for 24 points in the first quarter, but just 24 for the next three. The Hornets' rushing attack was difficult to defend, scoring three touchdowns on plays of 20-plus yards and two of 40-plus yards. For the game, Sac. St. rushed for 376 yards on 56 carries - 6.7 yards per attempt. Eastern was held to 278 yards of total offense. The Eagle defense forced three turnovers, with Jonathan Landry making his first career interception, while Jirah Leaupepetele recovered his first career fumble. Tylin Jackson scooped up his second fumble of the season. Jake Schakel stepped in to relieve an injured Nate Bell. Schakel passed for 201 yards on 24-of-38(63.2%) passing. Eastern


Eastern has recorded an interception in seven consecutive games, matching the longest streak since 2018 (11/3/18-1/5/19). 


In the game, Read Sunn and Drew Carter each made 11 tackles, with Sunn matching his career-best and Carter falling one tackle short of his career-best. Sunn leads the team and ranks sixth in the Big Sky in total tackles with 70. Carter is tied for 14th in the conference with 56 total tackles. Jaylon Jenkins remains atop the Big Sky leaderboard with 11 passes defended this season, while tying for the lead with four interceptions. 


Men's Basketball - at UCLA (Monday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.), at LMU (Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.), at Colorado (Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.)

The Eastern Washington men's basketball team tips off the 2025–26 season on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. against UCLA. The Eagles then travel to Los Angeles to face LMU on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m., before heading to Boulder, Colo., to take on Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.

Eastern is 0–1 all-time against UCLA, with the lone meeting coming in 2011. The matchup with LMU marks the first in program history, while the Eagles will meet Colorado for the sixth time, seeking their first win against the Buffaloes after falling in last season's contest.


Head coach David Monson enters his second season at the helm, looking to build on a promising first year with a roster that blends experience and fresh talent. Seven returners—Angelo Winkel, Tyler Powell, Elijah Thomas, Andrew Cook, Maddox Monson, Emmett Marquardt, and Shaumba Ngoyi—bring veteran leadership and familiarity with the system.


The Eagles also bolstered their lineup through the transfer portal, adding a versatile group highlighted by Isaiah Moses, Straton Rogers, Alton Hamilton IV, Kiree Huie, Johnny Radford, and Jojo Anderson. With collegiate experience from programs including Miami, UC Riverside, Whitworth, College of Idaho, and Lewis-Clark State, the newcomers add depth and balance across all positions.


Rounding out the roster are freshmen Cole Scherer (Littleton, Colo.) and Alan Gballou (Layton, Utah), who bring energy and promise as part of the next generation of Eagle basketball.


Women's Basketball - vs. Northwest University (Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.) -

EWU begins its 2025-26 campaign tonight at home, hosting Northwest University at 6 p.m. The game is streamed live on ESPN+. On Saturday (Nov. 8), the Eagles travel to play Arizona State in Tempe. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+.

Eastern Washington goes into the 2025-26 season looking to improve on its seventh-place finish in the 2024-25 season. Eastern went 7-11 in the Big Sky and 11-20 overall last season. Last year's team had no returning starters from the '23-'24 team that won the Big Sky regular and tournament title.


Head coach Joddie Gleason is now in her fifth year leading the Eagles and has a 68-58 overall record, going 30-26 in the Big Sky. Going into the season, Gleason returns three starters and nine total players from last season. She brings in seven newcomers, including four true freshman and three transfers.


In the preseason, Eastern was picked to finish sixth in both the coaches' and media polls. Kourtney Grossman was selected to the preseason All-Conference team after earning Big Sky Freshman of the Year and All-Conference honorable mention last season.Grossman broke the EWU freshman record with 314 rebounds. She led the conference with 10.4 rebounds per game last season. She added 10.5 points per game - second on the team - and notched 14 double-doubles.


Women's Volleyball
– vs. Idaho State (Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.), vs. Weber State (Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.)
Eastern Washington returns home this week for a pair of Big Sky matchups, hosting Idaho State on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m., followed by Weber State on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. The Eagles will look to even the season series after falling to the Bengals (0–3) and Wildcats (1–3) earlier this year.

Statistically, the Eagles continue to be one of the conference's top blocking teams, ranking fourth in the Big Sky with 209.5 total blocks and averaging 2.30 per set. Kalista Lukovich sits 10th in the league in kills, averaging 3.10 per set, while Camryn Hagles ranks sixth in service aces with 0.33 per set. Judith Bolomboy has been a force at the net, ranking fifth in the conference with 96 total blocks and averaging 1.05 per set.


Last week, Eastern battled hard but came up short in a 3–1 road loss to Idaho, with set scores of 23–25, 25–20, 23–25, and 19–25. After tying the match in the second set, the Eagles couldn't sustain momentum as the Vandals closed out the final two frames. Lukovich paced the offense with 15 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, while Quincey McCoy added 12 kills and a team-high six blocks. Eastern out-blocked Idaho 13–5, led by five blocks each from Alyssa Radke and Bria Carlisle. Setters Anna Bolich and Jailyn Davenport combined for 41 assists, and libero Elle Bruegman anchored the defense with 14 digs.
