Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sun Devils use third-quarter run to down Eagles

Eastern Washington dropped its first road game of the season

TEMPE, Ariz. — Eastern Washington women's basketball opened its road schedule on Saturday against Arizona State. The Sun Devils prevailed in the game 73-58 over the Eagles and led for the entire game. EWU drops to 1-1 on the season while ASU moves to 2-0.

"We came up short today, but there were a lot of positives to take away from this game," head coach Joddie Gleason said. "We battled for 40 minutes, handled their physicality and pressure defense for most of the game, along with matching a Big 12 opponent in rebounds. This game will help us grow and will move us forward to compete in the Big Sky later in the season."

The Sund Devils defense proved difficult, forcing 19 turnovers from the Eagles and allowing a 36.8 shooting percentage. ASU shot 45.2 percent for the game.

Elyn Bowers scored 15 points for the second-straight game, shooting 6-of-14(42.9%) from the flor and 3-of-6(50%) from three-point range.

"Some spotlights go out to Elyn and Ella Gallatin for handling ASU's press," Gleason explained. "Elyn led s in scoring today and did not shy away from the moment. Ella distributed the ball well and grabbed eight rebounds. We look forward to to being back at home for a few games next week. Go Eags!"

Eastern kept the score under control in the first half, keeping the deficit to under 10 points for the majority of the first two quarters. A 15-2 stretch from the Sun Devils in the third quarter handed them a 20-point lead and put them in control of the game.

EWU fought back in the fourth quarter, going 5-of-10(50%) from the three-point line. The Eagles outscored ASU by seven in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
