Eagles unable to take advantage of doubles win, fall to Sharks

MANOA, HI - Eastern starts fast, but falls to Hawai'i Pacific 6-1. The Eagles (0-8) earned their first doubles dual-match point of the season, but were unable to keep the momentum going against the Sharks (3-0).

EWU continued their five match road stretch with match one of two this weekend in Hawaii. Eastern and Hawai'i Pacific faced off in their first all-time meeting. 

In doubles, the Eagles would roll out the same lineup from their previous match against Idaho.

In the No. 1 doubles match of Tyler Dalos/Caden Kammerer, the two would be unable to secure the win, falling 6-1 to Jakub Beran/Mile Matic. 

Eastern's No. 2 doubles, Tyler Waddock/Drew Dillon would record their first doubles win of the season as a pair with a 6-3 victory. This would be Waddock's third doubles win of the season, and the fifth of his college career. Dillon earned his first doubles win of the season, and the 13th of his career.  

The No. 3 doubles, Arshjot Bhatti/Brady Thomas would dominate in their first doubles win of the season as partners in a 6-2 victory. Bhatti earned his second doubles win of the season, and the sixth of his college career. Thomas would earn his first doubles win of the season, and the 11th of his career. Bhatti and Thomas moved to 3-5 all-time as double partners. 

For singles, the Eagles would run the same lineup as they have all season.

Tyler Waddock would represent the Eagles in the No. 1 position for the eighth time this season. Waddock would start quickly, stealing the first set 6-3. Jakub Beran with the Sharks however would take back a tight second set 7-6, and force Waddock's first tiebreaker of the season. Waddock would fall 10-8 in the tiebreaker, and fall just short of the win. 


The senior Drew Dillon in the No. 3 position would fall just short in the first set 7-5, and would be unable to get things going in a 6-3 second set defeat. 

Junior Arshjot Bhatti would represent the Eagles in the No. 5 singles position. Bhatti would compete, but dropped the two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4 to Yannick Heitzeberg.

Up Next
The Eagles will stay in Hawaii for a match up against the University of Hawai'i (2-7). Eastern will play Hawaii Saturday, February 22 at 6 pm.
