Eastern concludes road trip with a victory over Whitman College

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Eagles (2-9) were able to end their long road trip with a 5-2 victory over Whitman College (4-2). Eastern and Whitman College met for the 24th time, as the Eagles advanced to 11-13 all-time against the Blues. The Eagles have now won the last nine meetings between the two schools. 

In doubles, Eastern would run a different lineup after having the same lineup for four matches straight. 

Eastern's No. 1 doubles match of Tyler Dalos/Tyler Waddock would be unable to snag the victory, and would fall in a close 6-4 match up against Alexander Stage/Noah Baker. 

In the Eastern's No. 2 doubles, Arshjot Bhatti/Drew Dillon paired up for the first time this season. The duo would dominate and win 6-0 over Diego Guzman/Charles Rush.Bhatti earned his third doubles dual-match win of the season, and the seventh of his career. Dillon also recorded his third doubles dual-match win of the season, and the 15th of his career

 No. 3 doubles Caden Kammerer/Brady Thomas would also compete together for the first time this season. The two would see some adversity early, but would be able to clinch the doubles point for the Eagles with a 6-3 win, and Eastern's second doubles point this season. Kammerer earned his fourth doubles win of the season, and the 12th of his career. Thomas recorded his second doubles win of the season, and the 12th of his career. 

For singles, the Eagles would run a different lineup than they have all season due to an injury. Eastern would see the top two positions stay the same, but would leave the No. 6 position vacant and give up a singles dual-match point to the Blues.  

Tyler Waddock would represent the Eagles in the No. 1 position. Waddock would be able to win his second straight singles dual-match with a 6-3 first set win, and a 6-4 second set win. Waddock recorded his third singles dual-match of the season, and the sixth of his career. 

Tyler Dalos in the No. 2 singles position put on a clinic, winning 6-0 and 6-0 in straight sets and earned his second singles dual-match victory of the season. This would be the seventh singles career victory for Dalos. 

Caden Kammerer would represent the Eagles in the No. 3 position for the first time this season. Kammerer would be able to win the first set comfortably 6-1, but would be in a tight one in the second. Kammerer would dominate in his tiebreaker, and win the second set 7-6 (7-1)  for his team-leading fourth dual-match win of the season, and the eighth of his Eagle career.

In the No. 4 position for the first time this season, Arshjot Bhatti controlled the pace of each set and won 6-2 in the first, and 6-1 in the second set. Bhatti secured his third victory of the season and the fifth of his career.

Senior Brady Thomas would sit at the No. 5 position for the Eagles for the first time this season.  Thomas would fall in the first set 6-3 to Hanri Luo. Thomas in the second set, would lose narrowly 7-6 (7-1) and fall to Luo. 

With the win, Eastern has won consecutive matches for the first time since the 2019 season when they defeated Montana and Idaho both 5-2 to end the season.

The Eagles will conclude their weekend stretch of three matches in three days. EWU will be home for the first time in a month and host Seattle University Sunday, Mar. 2 at 12 p.m.
