CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington athletics is in its home stretch of events for the 2024-25 academic year, with two teams still in action. Track and Field has a short road trip this weekend, traveling down to Pullman for the Cougar Classic. Soccer hosts cross-town rival Gonzaga on Saturday, followed by its final spring match on Sunday against Central Washington.
Track and Field – at Cougar Classic, Pullman, Wash. (Friday, April 25 – Saturday, April 26)
With just four weeks remaining until the Big Sky Conference Championships, the Eastern Washington Eagles are charging ahead at full speed. Next up, they'll travel to Pullman for the Cougar Classic, hosted by Washington State University on April 25–26. The meet marks another key opportunity for Eastern to fine-tune performances and continue building momentum during the final stretch of the spring season.
This past weekend, Eastern Washington University's track and field team had a standout showing across multiple meets, beginning with the Bryan Clay Invitational, where Noah Hasselblad stole the spotlight by breaking the school record in the 10,000m with a time of 29:28.94. Evan Peters also delivered a historic performance, moving to sixth all-time at EWU. On the second day, Marcus Lemon and Owen Higgins made moves in the 5000m, with Lemon climbing to ninth on the program's list. The women's team saw major improvements too, with Jasmin Muneton, Kaiya Sollie, and Sara Sanders all breaking into the program's top ten in their events. Lexi Meyer highlighted the women's invitational races by running a huge personal best in the 800m to rank fourth all-time.
At the Pacific Coast and Beach Invitationals, EWU athletes continued their momentum. Maddy Shekhawat ran a personal best in the 110m hurdles and helped the 4x100m relay squad tie for eighth all-time. Enoch Okoh broke into the record books in the 100m and contributed to the relay success. The field events saw strong performances from Nic Cunningham, Cort Gebbers, and Javen Livas, while Egypt Caitlin Simmons dominated with victories in the triple and long jumps. At the Beach Invite, Simmons and Tuti Smith went 1-2 in the long jump, and Reghan Skogen and Suzi Woodall set impressive marks in the pole vault. On the track, Gilana Wollman, Magdalena Slomska, and Sydney Thweatt earned notable times, while the men's relay squad posted the fourth-best time in school history.
At the Whitworth Twilight, AJ Baustert and Jake Trefry led the sprints for the men, while Noah Holden and Charlie Ledwith posted strong finishes in the distance races. The women dominated the hurdles and sprints, with Diana Fernandez's 400m win putting her eighth all-time at EWU. Amanda Nygard, Faith Martinez, and Emma Tomlinson led the middle-distance efforts, while Anne Shipp and Ashley Perez rounded out the meet with solid results in the field. Overall, the week was filled with personal bests, record-breaking performances, and depth across the board, positioning the Eagles strongly as they prepare for the final stretch of the season.
Women's Soccer – vs. Gonzaga (Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m.), at CWU (Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m.)
After a week off, the Eagles are set to wrap up their spring season with a pair of final matchups. They'll host Gonzaga on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. at the EWU Soccer Field, before hitting the road to face Central Washington on Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in Ellensburg, Wash. With the spring slate coming to a close, Eastern looks to finish strong and carry momentum into the offseason.
