CHENEY, Wash. — The spring seasons are moving towards the end, but there's plenty of competition left for Eastern Washington athletics. Women's golf plays its final regular season tournament in Arizona before focusing on the Big Sky Championships the following week. Women's tennis hosts its final two home matches of the regular season and celebrates its seniors this Sunday. Men's tennis makes its final road trip of the regular season with two matches in Montana on Thursday and Saturday. Track and field is moving quickly through its indoor season and sends part of its team to California, while keeping a group close to home in Spokane. Women's soccer and volleyball each have matches at home on Sunday to continue their spring schedules.
Women's Golf – at Bobcat Classic (Monday-Wednesday, April 7-9, All Day)
Eastern Washington stays in Arizona for the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State, this week. The tournament goes for three days, beginning today at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. The Eagles will play one round a day to conclude their regular season slate for the 2024-25 season.
This past week, EWU competed at the Cowgirl Classic hosted by Wyoming from April 2 to the 3rd. At the Classic, Eastern placed 12th on the team leaderboard, shooting 950 for the two-day competition. The team finished strong, shooting 305 in round three.
Gabriella Ilardi tied for 29th on the individual leaderboard, with an overall score of 232 (+16). She posted a 71 (-1) in round three, with no bogeys on her scorecard. Kami Twining shot 238 (+22) for the tournament to place 56th.
Women's Tennis – vs. Idaho State (Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.), vs. Portland State (Sunday, April 13 at 11 a.m.) - Free Admission
Eastern Washington is at home this week for its final two matches of the 2024-25 season in Cheney. EWU hosts Idaho State on Saturday, with first serve at 1 p.m., followed by the home finale on Sunday at 11 a.m. against Portland State. The Eagles will celebrate Senior Day against the Vikings, honoring Isabelle Foshee, Kenzington Mann and Kelly Arends.
Eastern holds a 13-24 record against Idaho St. in program history, while going 28-10 against Portland St.
EWU had a non-conference road trip yesterday (April 6) against Seattle U, falling to the Redhawks, 6-1. True freshman
Olivia Marais won her singles match, playing at the No. 5 spot, against Seattle's Larissa Teramura. Marais battled out a 7-5 win in the first set and closed out Teramura in the second, 6-4. The Redhawks won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3, while
Kenzington Mann and
Isabella Foshee had a 5-3 lead at No. 1, before Seattle clinched the point.
Eastern is 3-11 on the season and 1-3 in the Big Sky, sitting at seventh in the conference standings. They are 1.5 matches behind Idaho State for sixth (2-5) as the Eagles look to qualify for the Big Sky Tournament in two weeks.
Marais won her third singles match of the season and first at the fifth spot. Foshee and Leandra Nizetic lead Eastern with four wins apiece in singles' matches. Foshee has played all her matches at No. 1, while Nizetic has split between No. 2 and 3. In Big Sky matches, Foshee carries a 2-2 record, with Zoe Pradel matching for the team lead in conference wins.
In doubles' matches, Nizetic has posted four wins to lead the team.
Men's Tennis – at Montana State (Thursday, April 10 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time), at Montana (Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m.)
The final road trip of the regular season is on the way for Eastern this week, as the team travels to the Treasure State for a pair of matches. EWU first goes to Bozeman, Mont. to play Montana State on Thursday at 5 p.m., then stops off in Missoula to face Montana on Saturday at 9 a.m..
In program history, The Eagles are 7-39 against the Bobcats and 6-56 against the Grizzlies.
EWU dropped two matches this past weekend, first playing Northern Arizona in Spokane and then Weber State in Cheney. The Lumberjacks won 6-1 over the Eagles, with the team winning doubles point.
Tyler Waddock and
Tyler Dalos won 6-2 at No. 1 and
Caden Kammerer and
Brady Thomas clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3. The 'Jacks then swept the singles to earn the victory. Against the Wildcats,
Eastern fell 6-1 playing outside at the EWU Tennis Courts. Waddock picked up a win in singles for the team, topping Weber St.'s Tristan Sarap in two sets (6-4, 6-4).
This season, Eastern has a 1-4 Big Sky record and is 4-15 overall. They are eighth in the conference, half a match behind Montana St. for seventh.
Waddock and Kammerer are tied for the team lead in singles wins, earning seven each. Waddock is the standard No. 1 singles player, with Kammerer playing both at No. 4 and 3. The two also are tied for the team lead in doubles victories with six each.
Track and Field – at Bryan Clay Invitational, Azusa, Calif. (Thursday, April 10 – Friday, April 11, All Day), Jeff Rahn Classic, Spokane, Wash. (April 11, All Day)
This week, Eastern will split its team, with most of the Eagles competing at the Jeff Rahn Classic, hosted by Whitworth on Friday, April 11. Meanwhile, one athlete will travel to California to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational from Thursday, April 10, to Friday, April 11, in Azusa, California.
Egypt Caitlin Simmons was named the Big Sky Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second this outdoor season following a record-breaking performance in the triple jump last weekend. She clinched first place with a jump of 13.21 meters, breaking both her own school record and the facility record at the Whitworth Peace Meet. Simmons also triumphed in the long jump, finishing with a mark of 6.19 meters. This is her fourth honor of the year and her second this outdoor season.
The Whitworth Peace Meet was a standout event for Eastern, as the team recorded 22 personal bests (PRs), with 11 each for the men's and women's teams.
On the women's side, Simmons led with a school-record-breaking performance in the triple jump, setting a new mark of 13.21 meters, which ranks her 11th nationally. She also won the long jump with a 6.19-meter leap. Kimberly Smith finished second in the long jump, while Rachel Hardy posted strong results in both the triple and long jumps. Ashley Perez achieved a personal best in the discus, finishing seventh, and Reghan Skogen and Breauna Erickson also delivered impressive performances in the pole vault.
On the men's side, freshman Cort Gebbers earned third place in the discus with a personal best of 52.06 meters. Mason Moore and Javen Livas also set PRs in their respective events. Nic Cunningham recorded a PR in the triple jump, finishing second. Blake Garza and Brandon Gutzwiler had notable performances in the high jump.
Track highlights included Maddy Shekhawat winning the men's 110m hurdles with a PR of 13.88 seconds, while Enoch Okoh finished third in the 100m. The men's 4x100m relay team took first place, setting a new fourth-place all-time mark. Jasmin Muneton and Adrienne Root posted solid finishes in the 5000m and 10,000m, respectively. Magdalena Slomska had strong finishes in both the 400m and 100m hurdles, while Sara Sanders and Nattie Ruzauskas led the way in the 800m.
Both the women's and men's 4x400m relay teams also had notable finishes, with the women placing fourth and the men sixth.
Women's Soccer – vs. Whitworth (Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 9.m.)
The Eagles are coming off a dominant 8-0 victory over Spokane Falls Community College this past weekend. They'll look to carry that momentum into their upcoming matchup against Whitworth on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m.
Leading the charge for Eastern was Kendall Moore, who scored an impressive four goals. Delain Walker, Charity Freeman, Chloe Pattison, and Noelle Raczykowski each added a goal of their own, contributing to the team's commanding performance.
In goal, Kamryn Willoughby earned a shutout, expertly fending off the Sasquatch and ensuring a clean sheet.

The Eagles will face off against Gonzaga on Friday, April 11, at 4 p.m., before returning to the home court for a matchup with CWU on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m., marking their second week of spring ball.
Last weekend, Eastern traveled to LCSC, where they competed against Whitman, EOU, and LC State.
