CHENEY, Wash. — The calendar has changed to September and Eastern Washington's teams are already well into their seasons. Football travels for a primetime FCS matchup against Boise State on Friday Night Lights. Soccer looks to build a winning streak with two more home matches on Thursday and Sunday. Volleyball gets back on the road for the second tournament of the season in Portland with three matches on the schedule.
Football - at Boise State (Friday, Sep. 5 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time / 7 p.m. Mountain Time)
The road trip continues for Eastern Washington this week as they make the cross-state flight to Idaho to play Boise State on Friday. The game will be broadcast live in primetime on Fox Sports 1. The game can also be heard live on 700 ESPN with the voices of the Eagles, Larry Weir and Paul Sorensen.
Eastern opened the 2025 season last week against No. 4/5 Incarnate Word, falling to the Cardinals, 31-21. The Cardinals led 7-0 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 14-0 in the second.
Jared Taylor then carried the ball and found
Marceese Yetts with a perfect pitch on the option play that cued a 26-yard touchdown run. UIW countered with a quick 75-yard touchdown strike to go back up by 14 points. Following a muffed punt by the Cardinals, Eastern was set up at the UIW six-yard line. Two plays later, Taylor carried the ball into the endzone and the score was 21-14. A stop from the Eagle defense gave EWU the ball back with six minutes remaining in the half. The Taylor-to-Yetts option combo worked again, with Yetts going in for his second touchdown, 24 yards out to tie the game at 21. A late field goal gave UIW the lead at half.
In the second half, Eastern's offense could not put together a drive to tie the game. The Cardinals used a late fourth-quarter, five-minute drive to burn the clock and extend the lead to 31-21, securing the home win.
Yetts finished the game with 122 all-purpose yards and two scores, while Taylor had 183 yards through the air and 35 on the ground. Drew Carter posted a career-best 11 tackles, along with his first career fumble recovery. Tylin Jackson and Read Sunn both recorded sacks in the game.
Senior punter Landon Ogles was named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week after he booted a 72-yard punt, a career-long and tied for the third-longest punt in EWU history against UIW. Ogles punted for a career-best, 7 times for 296 yards, sending three for 50-plus yards and dropping two inside the 20-yard line. The award is Ogles' first of his collegiate career.
Eastern is 6-13 against Boise State in program history, playing for the first time since 2000. The Eagles fell to the Broncos in the last meeting, 23-41 in Boise. BSU is coming off a tough loss in week 1 on the road to South Florida, 7-34. EWI is 9-25 against the Mountain West conference all-time.
Women's Soccer – vs St. Thomas (Thursday, Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m.), vs. Air Force (Sunday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m.)

Goalkeeper Kamryn Willoughby was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the defense with 10 saves across two matches while facing 24 total shots, including 12 on frame. The honor marks her second career weekly award and first of the season.
Against UIC, the Eagles stormed back from an early deficit with two goals from Chloe Pattison, plus tallies from Delani Walker and Dakota Harris. Charity Freeman set the tone with three assists, while Noelle Raczykowski added two more, and Willoughby recorded seven saves to seal the win.
This week marks the first-ever meeting between Eastern and St. Thomas, and the fourth all-time matchup against Air Force. The Eagles are 0-3 in the series, with the last meeting coming in 2017, a 3-1 setback.

EWU is coming off an 0-3 showing at the UC San Diego Tournament, where they fell to New Mexico State (3-1), UC San Diego (3-0), and Northwestern (3-0). Despite the results, several Eagles stood out: Erin McInnes led the offense with 21 kills, Cassandra Moeller added 16, setter Anna Bolich dished out 55 assists, and libero Elle Bruegman anchored the defense with 29 digs.
