CHENEY, Wash. — No break from the road for Eastern Washington football as the team makes the short trip across state lines to play Boise State on Friday. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. Pacific Time, 7 p.m. Mountain Time.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1, marking the first time EWU has played on a linear network since Oct. 2, 2021 when they hosted Montana at Roos Field on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the game live on 700 ESPN and the Varsity Network with the voices of the Eagles, Larry Weir and Paul Sorensen.
Last Time Out Eastern Washington opened the 2025 season on the road against No. 4/5 Incarnate Word, falling 31-21 to the Cardinals. After the Cardinals went up 14-0, EWU had a 21-7 scoring advantage to tie the game. UIW would then score 10 unanswered points to secure the win. Eastern started the game with a strong drive, but threw an interception to end the early offensive success. The Cardinals scored on a long 13-play drive and followed up with another 6-play drive to go up double digits. Jared Taylor and Marceese Yetts had the option game working, with Yetts scoring two rushing touchdowns, 26 and 24 yards, on pitches from Taylor. Taylor also added his own rushing score. The score was tied at 21 late in the second half, but UIW converted a late field goal to take the lead. In the third quarter, neither team produced much offense, combining for 107 total yards. The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern as the third, but the Cardinals used a 5-minute, 11-play, 74 yard drive to pad their lead and get the home win.
Red vs. Blue (Turf) This will be the first matchup between Eastern Washington and Boise State since the Eagles installed their Red Turf in 2010. Eastern is 6-13 against Boise State in program history, playing for the first time since 2000. The Eagles fell to the Broncos in the last meeting, 23-41 in Boise. BSU is coming off a tough loss in week 1 on the road to South Florida, 7-34. EWU is 9-25 against the Mountain West conference all-time. Eastern played Nevada in Reno last season,
falling 49-16 to the Wolf Pack.
Big Boot gets POW Senior Landon Ogles started his final season off with winning his first weekly honor. Ogles was named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week following the game against Incarnate Word. Against the Cardinals, Ogles punted a career-best 7 times for 296 total yards. He booted a career-best 72-yard punt that also tied for the third-longest punt in EWU history. Ogles had 3 total punts that traveled 50+ yards and dropped 2 punts inside the 20-yard line. For his career, Ogles has 42 punts to his name for 1484 yards, averaging 42.4 per punt. The average currently ranks 3rd all-time in program history. It's the first Player of the Week award for EWU since Efton Chism III won the award in week 1 last season and the first Special Teams POW since Jackson Cleaver in 2021.
Yetts Goes Crazy Marceese Yetts had a break-out game against Incarnate Word, amassing 122 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns. Yetts posted career-bests with 59 rushing yards and 63 receiving yards. He had 50 rushing yards total last season. Against the Cardinals, Yetts had touchdown runs of 26 yards and 23 yards, working well in the option game with quarterback Jared Taylor. Yetts is in his second season with EWU after transferring from El Camino College.
Few Penalties Here Eastern started the 2025 season committing only 3 penalties for 25 yards against UIW. The team has become disciplined about committing penalties over the past two season, with less than 5 penalties in 6 consecutive games. They have not committed more than 5 penalties in 11 consecutive games.
Tackling for Career-Bests Several Eagles posted career-bests in tackles in the first game of the season. Drew Carter went into double digits with 11, while Myles Mayovsky recorded 8 and Jaylon Jenkins had 7. Dishawn Misa and Isaiah Perez each notched 6 tackles for career marks. Tylin Jackson matched his career-best with 5 tackles. Ambrose Marsh put up 4 tackles for his career-best. A group of Eagles also recorded their first career tackles including Josiah Goode(3), Dre Greeley(2), Tariq May(3), Gavin O'Leary(2) and Bryce Smith(3).
First Time Starters With 4 returning starters from 2024, there was a big opportunity for the newcommers to see the field and get extensive snaps to start the season. In total, 11 Eagles made their first career start against the Cardinals. There were four new starters on the offensive line with Aidan Corning, Mark Johnson, Kyle Stahlecker and Gavin Allen. The offense also had new starters in Jaxon Branch(WR), Malik Dotson(RB) and Landon Cooper(TE). On defense, Ambrose Marsh(CB), Myles Mayovsky(LB), Jaden Radke(DE) and Read Sunn(LB) got their first call to open the game for EWU. Sunn made 1 start for Wyoming prior to transferring.
