OGDEN, Utah. – Eastern Washington fell to Weber State on the road, 80-91, despite placing four Eagles in double figures.
Kiree Huie led the way with 21 points, setting a new career high, while
Isaiah Moses,
Alton Hamilton IV, and
Tyler Powell also reached double digits. Powell matched his career-best 17 points while shooting an efficient 75 percent from the field. As a team, Eastern shot 48 percent compared to Weber State's 47.5 percent, but the Wildcats held advantages on the glass (37–31) and from beyond the arc (28.6 percent to 45 percent).
Eastern Washington opened the game with strong defensive energy, using active hands and rim protection to disrupt Weber State's rhythm. The Eagles forced early turnovers and capitalized in transition, with Powell and Moses jumpstarting the offense and Huie scoring efficiently around the basket. Defensive plays from
Johnny Radford and Hamilton IV helped Eastern build momentum in a tightly contested opening stretch.
The first half remained back and forth as Weber State answered with timely perimeter shooting, but the Eagles stayed composed. Moses and Hamilton knocked down key free throws, Huie continued to pressure the paint, and
Shaumba Ngoyi provided a lift on the glass late in the half. Eastern closed the final minutes with poise, executing defensively to carry a 44–42 lead into halftime.
Out of the break, the teams traded baskets as the lead changed hands several times. Eastern leaned on Moses and Huie to keep pace, with Moses attacking downhill and converting at the line while Huie finished through contact in the paint. Defensive pressure fueled a mid-half push, highlighted by steals from
Straton Rogers and Hamilton that led to transition scores and briefly pulled the Eagles even.
As the half wore on, Weber State found its rhythm from the perimeter and at the free-throw line to stretch the margin. Powell connected on timely three-pointers to keep Eastern within striking distance, and Huie remained active on both ends with key rebounds and blocks. However, second-chance opportunities and late free throws allowed the Wildcats to pull away in the final minutes, as the Eagles' rally ultimately fell short.
