“Moving in the Right Direction”: Eagles Shine Across Two Meets

SPOKANE, Wash. – Eastern Washington primarily competed at the Jeff Rahn Classic, where the Eagles recorded five personal bests and one new top-10 mark. Meanwhile, two athletes traveled to California to take part in the multi-events at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

"Third meet of the season is in the books," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Erin Tucker. "We stayed local at Whitworth for the majority of the team and two of our multis headed to California for the Bryan Clay Multi Meet."

Pry'nce Millman made his collegiate decathlon debut, finishing sixth overall with 6,184 points in Group D. He opened strong on day one, placing fourth in the 100m (11.21), second in the long jump (6.87m / 22-6.50), seventh in the shot put (10.92m / 35-10), 10th in the high jump (1.71m / 5-7.25), and fifth in the 400m (51.25).

On day two, Millman placed eighth in the 110m hurdles (16.34), 11th in the discus (29.08m / 95-5), and 10th in the javelin, before closing with a fourth-place finish in the 1500m (5:57.32). He highlighted his performance with a win in the pole vault, clearing 4.10m (13-5.25).

Ella Seelhoff competed in the heptathlon (Group C), opening with a 10th-place finish in the 100m hurdles (15.22). She added an 11th-place mark in the high jump (1.53m / 5-0.25), a personal-best throw of 9.71m (31-10.25) in the shot put for ninth, and an 11th-place finish in the 200m (26.40) to conclude day one. She was unable to compete on day two.

On the women's side, the field events led the way, producing the team's lone top-10 mark of the week. Shai Gray won the long jump with a leap of 5.84m (19-2), followed by Gilana Wollman in second and Samarra Davis in third.

In the triple jump, Manthita Wague claimed the win with a mark of 12.00m (39-4.50), while Azaria Purdy placed second and moved into ninth on EWU's all-time list with a jump of 11.88m (38-11.75). Zoe Dunn, Lenah Martin, and Madison Bond rounded out the top five.

Breauna Erickson won the pole vault (3.65m / 11-11.75), with Kirsten Anderson finishing second and Josie Anselmo fourth. Anne Shipp added another victory in the high jump, clearing 1.60m (5-3).

On the track, Emma Tomlinson placed second in the 800m (2:13.61), while Rhiannon Davies finished sixth in the 1500m. In the 5000m, Rylee Brandon took fourth and Brooke Henkin seventh. Gray also placed fifth in the 100m, with Davis finishing eighth. The 4x400 relay team of Lexi Meyer, Ifechi Okoye, Charlotte Terry, and Sara Sanders capped the meet with a second-place finish in 3:58.63.

On the men's side, Alex Blecha led the way in the pole vault, winning with a clearance of 4.84m (15-10.50). Merci Migani claimed the triple jump title with a mark of 14.60m (47-10.75), while Nic Cunningham placed sixth in the long jump. Logan Ashbeck finished second in the javelin.

In the throws, Jason Nwaka led the Eagles with a third-place finish in the shot put (15.49m / 50-10), followed by Koda Woodard (sixth) and Bryson Chase (eighth). Javin Livas added a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw (51.92m / 170-4).

On the track, Charlie Ledwith won the 3000m steeplechase in 9:28.20, with Ian Lash finishing fourth. Migani placed seventh in the 100m, and Nathan Plant took fifth in the 400m. The 4x400 relay team of Fournier, Spurling, Plant, and Swalstad finished sixth in 3:32.98.

"If you look at the meet results, we had a very competitive weekend, you see a lot of meet wins and PRs," Tucker said. "The weather has been awesome all week, and our field event group and mid-distance runners took full advantage of it."

"We are moving in the right direction, and I am happy with how we competed today."

Eastern Washington returns to action next week at Whitworth, while a small group of mid-distance and distance runners will head back to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational.

"Back to Whitworth next Thursday for most of the team, and a small group of mid-distance and distance runners head to Bryan Clay," Tucker added. "That meet has given us quite a bit of confidence at the halfway point of the season. Next week will be an electric weekend for EWU, stay tuned!"
