SPOKANE, Wash. – Eastern Washington track & field turned in another impressive weekend with strong performances split between the Cougar Classic and Montana Open. The Eagles saw a school record fall, multiple personal bests, and several top finishes across both meets, continuing to build momentum as the postseason approaches. Led by standout efforts on the track and in the field, Eastern added to its all-time marks and conference standing while showcasing depth across the roster.

Cougar Classic
"Quick trip down to the Palouse didn't disappoint. After coming so close to the school record last week, Lexi Meyer decided she'd just go ahead and take it this week," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Erin Tucker. "Congrats to her, she's now the best of all time. Coach K is doing a remarkable job with that group, and they're not done yet."

On the men's side, Cort Gebbers uncorked a personal-best throw of 55.22m (181-2) in the discus, improving his No. 3 standing in the EWU record book and moving to No. 67 in the NCAA. Logan Ashbeck claimed first in the javelin with a season-best mark of 63.78m (209-3).

In the shot put, Jason Nwaka recorded a season-best throw of 16.27m (53-4.50) to finish second, while Koda Woodard placed fourth, Bryson Chase sixth, and Javen Livas seventh. On the track, Henry Nelson finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:52.88.

"Coach Maj and the 'Bomb Squad' had a great weekend," Tucker added. "I told you last week Logan wasn't done, and that Cort was about to uncork one, neither disappointed. Keep watching, because those two are just getting started."

On the women's side, Meyer highlighted the day by breaking the 800m school record (previously set in 2018) with a time of 2:10.33. Sara Sanders led the Eagles in the 3000m steeplechase with a first-place finish (11:05.11), while Rylee Brandon placed fourth. Ifechi Okoye added a third-place finish in the 400m (57.78).

In the field events, Ashley Fuller took second in the discus with a throw of 42.61m (139-9).

Capping off the meet, the mixed 4x400m relay team of Okoye, Plant, Meyer, and Nelson raced to a first-place finish in 3:39.79.

Montana Open
"Jumpers and vaulters headed to Montana and had a strong day," Tucker said. "His name is Dieumerci Migani, we call him 'Merci', and he had no mercy on the competition. He jumped to No. 2 in the Big Sky, Top-6 all-time at EWU, and Top-40 in the West Region. Take a bow, young man and knowing him, he's not done yet."

Migani captured the triple jump title with a mark of 15.51m (50-10.75), moving to sixth all-time at Eastern and No. 38 in the NCAA. Nic Cunningham added a third-place finish (14.24m/46-8).

In the long jump, Migani placed second with a leap of 7.08m (23-2.75), while Cunningham took third with a season-best mark of 6.94m (22-9.25).

In the women's triple jump, Azaria Purdy claimed first with a leap of 12.34m (40-6), moving into fourth on Eastern's all-time list. Zoe Dunn finished second, Manthita Wague fourth, and Lenah Martin fifth.
