Eagles Elevate Matt Mayberg to Assistant Coach

CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington University head men's basketball coach Dan Monson has announced the promotion of Matt Mayberg to assistant coach for the Eagles' program.

Mayberg joined Eastern Washington in 2025 after successful assistant coaching stops at Lewis & Clark, Ottawa University, and Peninsula College. Known for his player development and offensive efficiency, he helped Lewis & Clark produce its highest-scoring offense in more than 20 years while coaching two All-Northwest Conference selections, including All-Region guard Brenden Patrick.

"Matt has absolutely earned this opportunity," said Monson. "His work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to our program have been evident every single day since he arrived. He has built tremendous relationships with our players, brings great energy and has made an impact on our overall culture. I'm excited to officially promote him to assistant coach, as he has proven to be ready for this role and will continue to be a positive asset to our program moving forward."

Prior to Eastern Washington, Mayberg helped Peninsula College to three consecutive top-four regional finishes and spent time at Seattle University, contributing to the program's first 20-win season in more than 50 years and a postseason appearance in the CIT.

A graduate of Gonzaga University, Mayberg earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management before completing his master's degree in Sports Administration and Leadership from Seattle University.
