GREENWOOD, Ind. — With the 2025-26 academic year now concluded, the academic awards continue to pour in for Eastern Washington athletics. EWU men's and women's golf teams both placed two student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large team.
Lucas Hughes and
Jason Bustos earned the honor from the men's team, while
Berkley Ledesma and
Brooke Mahler represented the women.
CoSIDA Academic All-American honors are awarded to student-athletes who perform at an elite level in the classroom and in their chosen sport. Student-athletes who qualify have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete in 90 percent of scheduled games or start in 66 percent of games.
Ledesma earned a Big Sky honorable mention in her sophomore season, appearing in all 10 of Eastern's competitions. Ledesma nearly had a tournament win at the Desert Classic, placing in a tie for second following a 214 score in Arizona. The score led to Ledesma's first career Big Sky Golfer of the Week award. The University Place, Wash., native posted a 69 in the second round of the Yellowstone Intercollegiate.
Hughes posted a top-20 performance at the Big Sky Championships in April, tying for 16th on the individual leaderboard. He shot a 68 in the final round of the tournament - a career low - while posting a career-low, 218 final score. During the season, Hughes competed in nine of 10 tournaments for EWU. Hughes had his best 36-hole score in the first competition of the season at the Palouse Collegiate, shooting 149 between rounds one and two.
Bustos competed in eight of 10 competitions for the Eagles this season. At the Big Sky Championships, Bustos landed in a tie for 21st, shooting a 69 during the second round of the tournament. Bustos' best performance was at the Palouse Collegiate, where he shot a career-best 212 for the tournament, including a career-best 36-hole score of 141.
Mahler finished her Eastern career this season, competing in 10 tournaments for the Eagles. The Buckley, Wash. native tied for 46th at the Big Sky Championships, shooting 238. Mahler shot a 230 at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate, recording a 75 in the final round.
