Cheney, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team will make its return to the court this weekend, with the start of non-conference dual matches. Opening at home, the Eagles face off against Whitworth on Saturday, Jan. 23, starting at 10 a.m. PST, then immediately transition over to Seattle University at 3 p.m. PST the same day.
Eastern concluded its impressive fall season on Nov. 1, at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Gonzaga. In the blue singles draw, junior
Robert Dula battled his way into the quarterfinals, including a two-set victory, 6-4, 6-4, over Gonzaga's Jordan Smith. In the red singles draw, sophomore
Vuk Vuckovic fought all the way into the semifinals. The doubles team of Vuckovic and senior
Eduardo Bringold saw themselves win the championship in the doubles back draw.
Other highlights from the fall season include a singles title win for Dula in the Eagle Classic back in September, as well as a quarterfinals appearance in the ITA Regionals for the team of Dula and freshman
Victor Pereira. The Eagles also competed in the ITA All-American, gaining some valuable experience in the massive tournament.
Whitworth competed in one tournament this past fall, the ITA Northwest Regionals from Sept. 25-27. There the team earned multiple victories in the singles and doubles draws, as well as a quarterfinals appearance for their team of senior Drew Adams and senior Drew Brigham.
Seattle competed in the Eagle Classic earlier in the fall, as well as earning multiple victories in the ITA Regionals on Oct. 22-26. The Redhawks started their dual match season on Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 against two Pac-12 teams, Oregon and Washington. They lost 0-7 against Washington in both matches of the day. Against Oregon, SU earned its first point against a Pac-12 team in the 1-6 loss. In the second match of the day, they lost 0-7. Â
