The Eastern Washington University's men's tennis team traveled to the west side for their first regular season match to play Seattle University. The Eagles were able to defeat the Redhawks 6-1 en route to their first win of the season.
"I am pleased with how the guys played and just the overall preparation," head coach Steve Clark said. "We have things to work on obviously, but I am pleased going into playing Stanford."
Senior Robert Dula, who is ranked No. 19 in the Northwest Region, defeated his opponent Trenton Nield 6-3, 6-2 in the number one singles spot. The second singles was Victor Pereira who defeated his opponent Matt Alderson 6-4, 7-5. Junior Scott Paz defended his third singles spot by defeating John Stormans 6-3, 6-3. Junior Ricardo Almeida was in a battle with Seattle's Jeremiah Kalmus, going into a tiebreaker. The junior eventually fell to his opponent, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Junior Flavien Raveau defeated his opponent Alex Chen 6-3. 6-2. Senior Wacil Bendjelti showed resilience when he battled from behind and defeated Adrian Snabria in another tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
The double teams went undefeated on the day for the Eagles. The number one team was Dula and Paz who won 6-2. Pereira and Alemedia were the second team for EWU, defeating their opponent 6-1. Senior Luke Ness and junior Vuk Vuckovic finished off the doubles teams, winning 6-4.
Eastern will continue their regular season against Stanford University this Friday on Jan. 20.
