Men's Tennis

EWU Tennis Teams Host Three Matches This Week

The men will compete on Friday at 3 p.m. while the women play on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.

This weekend is a chance to get your fill of Eastern Washington University tennis with three home matches.
 
The home stand of tennis matches starts this Friday, Feb. 24 when the men's tennis team takes on Big Sky's North Dakota. Matches will begin at 3 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The men are undefeated at 2-0 in the conference, and are tied in first place with Idaho.
 
The women will continue home play the next day on Feb. 25 against North Dakota. Matches will begin at 11 a.m. in the Fieldhouse. The women will also be playing the following day, Feb. 26 against Fresno State. Those matches will begin at 10 a.m. The women have not collected a win yet this year, and are 0-1 in the conference.
 
Admission to all the tennis matches is free and open to the public.
 
For the men . . .
 
The men are coming off a 1-1 road trip from Portland, Ore. The Eagles defeated Big Sky's Portland State by a team score of 5-2 on Feb. 17. The next day, EWU fell 7-0 to the University of Portland.
 
The Eagles are 2-0 in the conference and tied for first with Idaho. Last year at this time, EWU started off 3-0 in the conference and finished 4-7 in the Big Sky.
 
Eastern is undefeated against North Dakota, sitting at 4-0 in all time. UND is currently 0-7 overall on the year and 0-3 in the Big Sky. This will be only the third time for the Fighting Hawks to be in Cheney for a tennis match.
 
Last time the men played at home, they defeated Sacramento State for the first time in nine years. They went on to also defeat Whitworth the same day.
 
Matches will begin at 3 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 24 in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
 
For the women . . .
 
The women are still seeking a win this season going into their two matches this weekend. They will play their second Big Sky matchup against North Dakota on Saturday, Feb. 25 and continue competition the next day (Feb. 26) against a non-conference opponent, Fresno State.
 
This will be the third week in a row that the women compete at home. Their previous matches were against Northern Colorado and Seattle University, with falling 5-2 in both of those matchups.
 
The Eagles are 2-1 against North Dakota overall, winning 6-1 in their competition last year. UND is 4-5 overall so far this year and is 3-1 in the Big Sky conference. Their one loss in the Big Sky was against Idaho State. The three victories have been against Weber State, Portland State and Montana.

This will be the first time EWU women's tennis compete against Fresno State. The Bulldogs are 2-2 overall right now with wins over Sacramento State and Utah. Fresno State will be coming off a match against Washington State in their road trip to the Pacific Northwest. 

Matches will begin at 11 a.m. against North Dakota on Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The following day, Eastern will take on Fresno State with matches starting at 10 a.m.
