EWU Men's Tennis Defeats Former Big Sky Champions Weber State 4-3

The Eagles continue a perfect 4-0 record in the Big Sky with the win

OGDEN, Utah – The Eastern Washington University's men's tennis team had a clutch 4-3 win over Weber State on March 17. This makes the Eagles still undefeated in the Big Sky at 4-0.
 
This is the first time EWU has beat Weber State since 2012 and improves their overall record to 8-10 against the Wildcats.
 
"This is another great win by the guys," head coach Steve Clark said. "It was nice because we are just not playing well at all playing well at all positions yet. Some guys contribute each week and we just have to get there collectively."
 
Senior Robert Dula returned to the courts and defeated his opponent in the No. 1 singles spot by scores of 6-2, 6-3. Junior Scott Paz won in No. 4 singles with the same scores of 6-2, 6-3. The other Eagle to collect a win in the singles side of the match was senior Wacil Bendjelti who won in the No. 6 spot with scores of 6-1, 7-5.
 
"Another nice part of the match was when Wacil was able to overcome loss of momentum in the second set to clinch the match at 4-2," Clark added. "I am very proud of him."
 
In doubles, the two teams to collect wins were in No. 2 and 3 doubles. Paz and junior Flavien Raveau teamed up in the second spot and 6-4. Bendjelti and junior Ricardo Almeida won in the third spot by a score of 6-3.
 
The other singles matches were junior Victor Pereira won fell to his opponent in the No. 2 singles spot with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Raveau competed in the No. 3 singles spot and fell 6-1, 6-4. Almeida competed at the No. 5 singles spot and fell in a close match by scores of 5-7, 7-6, and 4-10. In doubles, Dula and Pereira competed in the No. 1 spot and fell 6-3.
 
"We had a great day outside, like tennis is meant to be played," Clark said. "It was just an overall solid day of sportsmanship and battling."
 
The Eagles will continue Big Sky competition against Idaho State tomorrow (March 18) in Pocatello, Idaho. Matches are set to start at 11 a.m.
