The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team will close its regular season this week with hosting three home matches. The first match will be tomorrow (April 12) against Idaho with matches beginning at 3 p.m.
The Eagles will continue competition on Saturday, April 15 against Montana and will also play Montana State the following day, on April 16. Both matches will also begin at 3 p.m.
Eastern is coming off a 1-1 weekend after defeating Southern Utah 6-1 and then had a 7-0 loss to Northern Arizona the next day in the Big Sky road trip.
The competition in the Big Sky is heating up as the match against Idaho will be a battle for second place in the conference standings. The Eagles and Vandals have the same record overall at 11-7 and also the same conference record at 6-2. Idaho defeated Eastern last year in Moscow without EWU's senior Robert Dula on the lineup.
The Grizzlies are sitting in fifth place in the conference standings with a 5-3 record in the Big Sky and is 10-7 overall.
Montana State is sitting in eighth place in the Big Sky standings with a 4-3 conference record and is 5-12 overall.
After these last three matches at home, Eastern will also be competing in the Ojai Tennis Tournament in California on April 20-23. This will be the first time EWU will be a part of the tournament.
EWU can clinch a bye with a 3-0 week, and can seal a tourney spot with 1-2 wins depending on results around the league. The conference championship will take place on April 28-30 in Phoenix, Ariz. with the top six teams in the conference standings earning bids into the tournament.
